What do I need to do to come to school on a student visa (F-1 status)?

You must first apply for a document called an I-20 which is the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (F-1) Student Status. This is done by applying to the college.

What are the requirements to get the I-20 document?

Below are the basic steps required to obtain the I-20 from Paradise Valley Community College:
  1. Complete the Paradise Valley Community College International Student Information form.

  2. Take the TOEFL test and send the scores to Paradise Valley Community College. The score must be 500 if written test is taken and 173 if the computerized version is taken in order to enroll as an F-1 student at Paradise Valley Community College.

  3. Submit an official high school transcript in English. Graduation from a secondary school equivalent to an American high school is required.

  4. Provide a financial guarantee equivalent to $18,550 (US dollars).

What does the $18,550 go towards?

The following represents estimated costs for a 12 month period:

Do I need to pay the $18,550 directly to Paradise Valley Community College?

No. You will pay Paradise Valley Community College for tuition, fees, and the student health insurance. You will also purchase your books and supplies at the college. Therefore, you will need to have sufficient funds to pay for these costs when you arrive. If you will be living in an apartment, you will also need enough money to move into your apartment (rent, electric, bill, telephone, etc.).
