Social Change Model of Leadership Development *

Personal Values

Consciousness of Self & Others
Self-reflection - values, emotions, attitudes, and beliefs that motivate one to take action, understanding others.

Congruency
Thinking, feeling, and behaving with consistency, genuineness, authenticity, and honesty toward others.

Commitment
Intensity and duration, significant involvement and investment of one's self in the activity and the intended outcomes.

Group Values

Collaboration
Empowering others and self through trust. Occurs when one has trust in the diversity of multiple talents and perspectives of others.

Common Purpose
Work with shared aims and values, engage in collective analysis of issues and tasks. All members of the group participate actively in articulating the purpose and goals.

Controversy With Civility
Differences in viewpoint are inevitable and valuable, such differences must be aired openly but with civility.

Societal Values

Citizenship
Self is responsibly connected with the community, interdependence of all, individual responsibility and rights.
