Learning-Centered Update December 3, 2012
While I know our collective focus right now is on the next two weeks with an eye towards student success during finals week, I wanted to take this opportunity to "plant a seed" as you begin to think about Spring Semester and Learning Week.
The student success/completion continuum begins long before students arrive at Paradise Valley Community College. When students do enter our institution, it is imperative that they start right. Data indicates that new students will decide within the first three weeks whether or not they can be successful in college.
In Fall 2011, PVCC administered the Survey of Entering Student Engagement (SENSE) during the third week of the semester to learn from our students how they experienced our institution. This survey gathers data in the area of six benchmarks:
« Early Connections.
« High Expectations and Aspirations.
« Clear Academic Plan and Pathway
« Effective Track to College Readiness
« Engaged Learning
« Academic and Social Support Network.
For further information about SENSE benchmarks, please visit http://www.cccse.org.

Make plans to attend the Spring 2013 Learning Week Learning-Centered College session where the focus will be on new students and how they experience us. We will hear from students in a new video entitled, “Students Speak Are We Listening” and conversation will follow including highlights from PVCC’s 2011 SENSE survey. Please note Spring 2013 Learning Week registration officially opens on 12/12/12!
