Advanced Search
The Advanced Search screen has quite a few additional options
available to you. In particular, you can select record fields
to search, set limits or expanders to change the number of articles
you retrieve, and perform a Boolean search. The default type
of search is a keyword search, but you can browse or search
publications, CINAHL subject headings, or the EBSCO image database
by clicking on the appropriate button in the green bar below
the tabs.

The Fielded Search feature allows you to restrict your search
to certain fields in the
database, and to combine several search terms for more precise
results. Type your search
term(s) in the appropriate text box(es), and select a field
to search from the adjacent
pull-down menu.
You can search terms only in the field of the Abstract, Article
title, Author, Author Affiliation, Editors, Subject, Volume,
Journal Name, and Publication Date or Year. You can also search
within the Subject Headings of the works for specific words.
An Advanced Search also offers a variety of techniques for
limiting and expanding your
search results. CINAHL allows you to limit your search to include
only articles that have
Full Text or an Abstract available; articles from a particular
Publication Year; articles
from a particular Publication Type; articles in a particular
Language; and articles within a
specific Journal or by a specific Author.
Remember in Advanced search unless you place an 'and' between
the terms, the search will search the entire phrase - not individual
words.
LimitersS
On the Keyword, Advanced, and Natural Language Search Screen,
limiters are available. These allow you to limit by such parameters
full text, name of magazine, and publication date
In additions, you may limit your search by language, gender,
age group and special interest.
· Example: If you click in the “full text”
item box, this limits search results to items available only
in full text.
· Example: If you type a periodical title in the "Magazine"
box, i.e. Newsweek, results are limited to items found in Newsweek
only.
· Example: If you select a language or an age group,
this limits th e search to a particular language or age.
Expanders
On the Keyword, Advanced, and Natural Language Search Screen,
expanders are available. These allow you to broaden your search
to include related words (synonyms and plurals) or keywords
within the full text of the article.
· Example: If you click in the “also search for
related words” item box, you will retrieve computers as
well as computer.
· Example: If you click in the “search within
full text articles” item box, you will retrieve keywords
mentioned in the full text of the article as well as the abstract
and citation information.
