PVCC's E-Books Collection:

The PVCC Library subcribes to several electronic book collections; OCLC's E-Books collection, ebrary, Gale Virtual Reference Library & NetLibrary. Please choose one for more information.

eBooks are digital versions of print books -- available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week from any location in the world. These books are full text and can be accessed on campus from any computer on or off campus with a library card barcode number.

Both ebooks services can be accessed either through the PVCC online catalog or through their web sites.

This service is FREE to our students, faculty and staff.

Note: When you create an account for either ebrary or netLibrary you are creating your own personal account which is not tied to your PVCC Library account.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

ebrary -

  • Provides online access to over 24,000 full text academic books.
  • Requires an ebrary reader - download now!

  • If you are using Windows and Internet Explorer, you need to enable Active-X for at least that session in order to access ebrary.

  • Requires an ebrary Bookshelf account to save pages and highlighted sections of books.

How to Access ebrary books:

  • Click on ebrary to search for ebrary ebooks.

    • or

  • Click on PVCC's online catalog to do a "keyword" search on your particular subject and include "ebrary" as one of the search terms. ie. "environment and ebrary" or "computers and ebrary" .
  • Choose one of the titles that has an ebrary icon and click on " The Maricopa Community College Libraries" link . See example below:

  • Click on "Paradise Valley College online access (on-campus only)".

  • netLibrary provides access to your library's collection of eBooks. More information about netLibrary...
  • Over 700 current electronic books are available in the netLibrary collection...plus, over 3,000 additional titles in the public domain.

How to:

  • Browse an eBook?
    You may browse a book, without having to login or check-out the title, for a period of 15-minutes, by selecting the option to Browse this eBook online.
  • Check-out an eBook?
    A netLibrary account is required to check-out titles or access the collection from off-campus.

First Time Use:

If this is your first time using eBooks, please read the following.
First you must create an account using a PVCC computer ON CAMPUS.

  • To create netLibrary account using an ON-CAMPUS computer?

      • Select Create An Account
      • Fill in the online form (fields in red are required, and include your email address,
        and a username and password of your choice)
      • Click on Submit
      • Read the Terms of Use
      • Click Accept
      • Once accepted, this will be the username and password you will use every time you login to check-out and read books from netLibrary from any computer with Internet access.

  • How do I check-out a book and how long do I have access to it?

      • From an eBook summary screen, click on the Check out link.
      • The loan period for ebooks is 7 days.
      • No one else can use an ebook while you are using it.
      • The ebook is automatically returned once the loan period expires.
      • You may check out the book again to extend the loan.
      • You may also check-in the book before the due date by simply selecting that option.

  • Am I able to print an ebook?

      • Selected pages can be printed, one at a time, due to copyright protection. Users are prohibited from printing books in their entirety or otherwise redistributing them. If a user attempts to print an entire book, the system displays a copyright infringement notice.

      OCLC catalog of online electronic books available through libraries worldwide.

      Why select this database?

      * Contains all the online electronic books cataloged by OCLC member libraries.

      Subjects: All online electronic books cataloged by OCLC members, including all subjects.
      Sources: OCLC member libraries
      Number of records: Over 295,000 books in the database.
      Dates Covered: All cataloged ebooks to the present.
