PVCC Library Use Policy

All users of the PVCC Library, including students, staff, faculty, and community borrowers, must abide by these policies. Failure to do so can result in ejection from the Library, suspension of library and/or campus privileges, or arrest.

Appropriate Behavior
Any library user who exhibits behavior that is loud, aggressive, inappropriate to a library setting, or that otherwise creates a disturbance will be asked to leave the Library.

Cell Phone & Phone Usage
As a courtesy to other library users, please turn cell phone ringtones down or set them to vibrate. If you must take a call, please complete it quietly.
Patrons are not permitted to use our phones. Public phones are available at each end of the building.
Computer Usage
The Maricopa Community College District’s Computing Resource Standards can be found at: http://www.dist.maricopa.edu/legal/dp/inbrief/compstandards.htm

Academic use will take priority when computers use are at a premium. Viewing websites that may be considered offensive to other library users is strictly forbidden and will result in revocation of library privileges. Word processing, programming, or other applications are not available on library computers. Tampering with library computers in any way will result in revocation of library privileges.

Printing must be kept within reasonable limits. For lengthy documents, please email, download, or bring your own paper. Saving, burning, or downloading files, including music or other media files, is subject to copyright laws.

Community Borrowers are allowed 2 hours of use each day.

Copiers & Printers
Copying on the three copiers are available in the Library for patron use which are located in the Copy Machines room. Copies are $.10 per page. The library's public use computer network provides three printers and printing is currently free but ask patrons not to print no more than they need. Printing is only for academic use.

Copyright Law
Copyright law of the United States (Title 17 U.S. Code) governs the making of copies of copyrighted material. Any person copying such material is liable for any infringement.

Food and Drink
Food and drink are allowed in the Library - just be careful and do not leave a mess. Trash receptacles are found throughout the Library just waiting to be used.

Laptops
A few laptops are now available to check out for a limited 2-hour use. These are only for PVC students who have a current PVC ID and no fines of any sort on their records.
Quiet Atmosphere
Users of the Library expect to have a reasonably quiet study space. Please conduct group sessions in our group study rooms (NE corner), and restrict lengthy conversations to the hallway. The Quiet Zone near the study rooms is set aside for quiet individual study.

Resources/Supplies
Use of supplies and resources by library patrons will be monitored by the Library staff. Excessive or inappropriate use will result in the access to the supplies or resources being denied.

Student Precedence
Although our Library is open to the public, PVCC students shall take precedence in the use of resources, including computers, study tables, and study rooms. Non-students are asked not to use computers during busy times and instruction sessions.

Study Rooms
Small study rooms and group study rooms are available for students on a first come first serve basis.

The group study rooms are for two or more students only and are equipped with white boards, televisions and DVD/VHS players.

Private, fee-based tutoring in the study rooms are available for PVCC students only.

Unattended Children
It is a violation of District policy to leave children under 18 unattended anywhere on campus, including the library. College Safety will be notified if children are left unattended.

U.S.A. Patriot Act - WARNING: Under Section 215 of the federal USA Patriot Act (Public Law 107-56), records of books and other materials you borrow from this library may be obtained by federal agents. This law also prohibits librarians from informing you if records about you have been obtained by federal agents. Questions about this policy should be directed to Attorney General at the Department of Justice, Washington, DC.
