*News & Updates from each campus
RSCC - Dina: Uses Smart-thinking.com for major online tutoring. Also provides other online tutoring, phone tutoring, and face-to-face. There is limited face-to-face tutoring as most students are not taking classes by coming to the campus. May have a few tutors onsite for MAT, BIO, or SPA.

GWCC - Kyoko: They are in the midst of remodeling. They are changing out fixed computer stations to be more flexible and can be used for computers too. Furniture and space usage is based on information gained at the district Learning Spaces sessions. First phase of furniture has been ordered and received. Will showcase for LCC group at a future meeting.

EMCC - Rodica: EMCC is in the process of combining LEC and Info Commons (Becky began). Getting everyone cross-trained. Creating on-line Help Desk (beginning to move towards offering the same services online as are provided face-to-face).

PC - Seth: Math + Science Center was originally funded with Title V funds and was put into space in the library. It was intended to support minority and low income students to help them be successful and to encourage them to continue in more math and science courses or even degrees. The Math + Science Center has never had to turn away anyone needing help. It has built a good reputation and a positive presence on campus. The Math + Science Center coordinates efforts well with the Learning Center.

SMCC - Bill: SMCC is starting up a Math + Science Center using Title V funds. The person running the center will report to Bill. Similar start-up process to the start of the TRIO program at SMCC. Currently the Learning Center at SMCC gives the SBI (Student Behavior Inventory) to every student.

PVCC - Rick: Revised the Tutor Training Program, put on web at http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/lsc/staff/training/, am offering again as a course and am using Blackboard as the course managemengt tool. Found a great study skills site which incorporates multiple languages for the study skill handouts at http://www.studygs.net/. The ListServ for Learning Center folks was brought up and described and information about it including how to subscribe is on LSCHE (Learning Support Centers in Higher Education) under the resources section at http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/%7Elsche/resources/lrnasst.htm.

* Comments about the 2006 Winter Institute

Bill mentioned that he enjoyed the atmosphere, collegiality, and the sessions of the Winter Institute as always. He mentioned the great mentoring opportunities and the single sessions as pluses. Also there were some tips on statistics he will share with us. He also mentioned a free online resource for training online writing tutors taht he will send out.

Rick shared positive thoughts about the new DVD David Gerkin had purchased for the LSC at PVCC called "A look at Productive Tutoring Techniques" at http://www.ncsu.edu/tutorial_center/cost_ordering_ttvideo.html. Rick will bring to next LCC meeting.

LCC meeting concluded with an excellent tour of the Math + Science Center at PCC.--Thanks Seth!
