8. Write page number and problem number on examples

When you do a book problem for a student, always be sure to write down the page number and problem number on the sheets of scrap paper that you use. This allows the student to keep that paper as a reference example, and to remember what it is referring to once back at home. I have been personally told by a student that she keeps a “library” of tutor-written examples and constantly refers back to them. The lesson here is that, when writing demonstration problems on scrap paper, the tutor is in some cases actually creating library entries. Create them with the respect that they deserve. Make them neat, well-organized, and – above all – write the page number and problem number on them.
