In Attendance: Rick Sheets, Richard
Morales, Alison Livingston, Pam Komarek, Dani Pierce, Rodney King
These items represent major
points that were discussed.
LSC Retreat
- Monday, August 8, at Rick’s house. Rick,
Richard, Alison, Dani, and Rodney will meet at the PVCC circle at 8:30
to ride in the van with Rick. They will arrive back to PVCC at 5:00. Pam
and Johnna will drive directly to Rick’s house and will arrive no later
than 9:15. Rick will send his address and directions to his house via
email. We will order pizza for lunch, which Rick will cover. We will
bring our own drinks and snacks to share.
- For this day, we will create
a sign for employees who may want to use the Faculty/Staff Resource Room
that will direct them to the Computer Commons.
“Kingdomality”
- Rick will send us the link to
the personality assessment “Kingdomality.” We will each take it prior
to the retreat so we can discuss it at the retreat.
Summer Break
- August 8 - 19. We will use Rick’s Om
chimes at the front desk for students to use to get our attention while
we are preparing the LSC for fall.
- Dani now has her schedule for
these two weeks.
Employee Breakfast and Meeting
- August 15, from 8:00 – 11:00
in KSC Student Union. The LSC will open at 11:15 that day.
Learning Week
- August 15-19. Let Rick know which
sessions you would like to attend. The LSC will pay tutors for up to
2 hours for those who would like to attend sessions.
LSC All Staff Meeting
- August 18, from 8:30 – 12:00. Most
of the tutors have been contacted and will be attending the meeting. We
will discuss this more at the retreat.
New Tutoring Training
- August 18, from 12:30 – 4:00. Part
of the retreat will include planning for this event.
- Alison put together a packet
for the training, which includes information on private tutoring. Pam
will see if we have written procedures about private tutoring.
Correction to July 14, 2005, minutes
- Corrected breaks and lunches
to read as follows:
- Work 4 hours or more: 15 minute
paid break can be taken
- Work more than 6 hours: 15 minute
paid break can be taken plus a required 30 minute unpaid lunch
- Work 8 hours or more: Two 15
minute breaks can be taken plus a required 30 minute unpaid lunch
Passport to Paradise
- Alison will probably handle both
day times and Thursday night, with Richard covering Thursday night if
needed. Dani will handle the Saturday session.
First Day of Classes
- August 20. We decided to have
a partial staff for that day: Elliott and Sara. Richard will contact
the other Saturday tutors and let them know that their fall start date
will be August 27.
- Dani will handle Passport to Paradise on that day.
- If Dani can get coverage for
the front desk, she will go to the Saturday ESL classes and tell them
about LSC resources. Richard will find out the instructors’ names.
August 22 Front Desk Coverage
- Alison will be out. Richard
will open; Pam will cover when Richard leaves until Dani arrives at 2:00. Rick
will cover Pam’s lunch.
ESL Classes
- Pam will look at ESL class times
for fall and visit those who are not coming in for tours.
Faculty/Staff Resource Room
- It is designated as an independent
workroom, but we will help out occasionally, with Rick and Richard helping
out the most. If employees need a lot of help, they need to go to CC’s
open lab.
- The room includes a printer (not
color) and a scanner for employees to use. Employees will eventually
be able to print to a color printer in CC. Rick will work on this.
- The computers, if not already
doing so, will be set to turn on and off on their own.
- Employees using the room will
show their ID when they come in.
- Alison will handle getting a
computer sign-in sheet for the room.
LSC Color Printer at Pam’s Desk
- Alison will do a TRF to get shared
access to Pam’s color printer.
Tutor Quiet Times
- At the retreat we will discuss
tutors doing homework, grading paper, etc. during quiet times.
PASS Time
- It will be held Monday – Thursday
from 12:30 – 1:30. We will book rooms 191, 192, and 193 from 12:00 –
1:30.
- Rick or Richard will talk to
Todd about attending Athlete Orientation. (Update: PASS Orientation
will be Saturday, August 20, 12:30 – 2:00.)
Staff Meetings
- At the retreat we will set times/days
for staff meetings.
Internet Use on Student Computers
- We will discuss this at the retreat.
Cell Phone Signs
- Rick expressed concern about
the negativity of the current cell phone signs. We discussed making
a sign that shows a cell phone vibrating and a caption that reads, “Please
be sure your cell phone doesn’t ring, and talk outside of the LSC. We
will discuss this more at the retreat.
“Please Be Considerate” Sign
- We will create a “Please Be Considerate”
sign that will include reminders about being loud, using cell phones,
taking up too much space, and other actions that may disturb other students.
Children in the LSC
- We discussed this and decided
that we did not think children should be allowed in the LSC. However,
there may be a problem with this since we allow community members to
use LSC resources. Rick will look into it further.
Temporary ID Cards
- Students can only use a temporary
ID card for three visits. They will not be allowed to use it a fourth
time.
- Students wanting to use a temporary
ID card for tutoring or resource use must show a picture ID to indicate
to us that they are who they say they are.
- Students wanting to use a temporary
ID must step aside and wait until students who have their PVCC IDs are
helped.
LSC Brochures
- The old LSC brochures with the
coffee coupon will be thrown away.
- We will send the latest LSC brochure
that includes our website info to IKON.
Pre-Semester Checklist
- We will discuss at the retreat.
Candy for Passport to Paradise
- We will discuss at the retreat.
Front Desk Access
- At the retreat we will discuss
who is allowed behind the front desk.
Tutor Training Level I, II, and III
- We will discuss at the retreat.
