LSC Website Homepage
- Rick asked for feedback on changes
he has made to the LSC homepage and welcomed contributions of quotes
and study tips.
LSC Bookmark
- Discussed updating old LSC bookmark. Pam
will find it; Johnna will update it.
- We will add our slow times to
the bookmark.
Passport to Paradise
- Dates for Passport to Paradise are Thursday morning, August 11 (Alison will cover);
Thursday morning and evening, August 18 (Alison will cover morning; Rick
will cover evening); and Saturday morning, August 20 (Dani will cover).
PASS Time Orientation
- Richard will attend the orientation
and provide information about the LSC.

All Staff Meeting
- Rick passed out plans for the
meeting. We discussed the Threefold Purpose, Learning Outcomes, and
Presentations/activities.
- Threefold Purpose:
- To build our LSC team and help
everyone get to know everyone working in the area.
- To begin the training seminar
for both new and returning tutors going for Level II & III.
- To reconnect all (emotionally
and intellectually) with our purpose and mission.
- Learning Outcomes:
- Meeting colleagues/peers and
all staff members.
- Strategies for dealing with
change to help students.
- Awareness of available resources.
- Understanding of LSC policies
and procedures.
- Better understanding of our
purpose as a person, center, and college.

Tutor Seminar
- Discussed the new format for
Tutor Training. Previously tutor training was accomplished through a
two-day seminar. New format will include several sessions held throughout
the semester.
- Tutors who attend the August
18 meeting will have about 2 hours of time towards their next level (new
and returning).
- Tentative session topics for
new tutors:
- Foundations of Tutoring
- Communication Skills
- Customer Service
- Learning-Centered College & Paradigms
- Metacognitive Approach to Study
Skills
- Do’s and Don’ts of Tutoring
- Learning Styles
- Diversity
- Six or sevens tutors will attend.
- Rick will provide pizza for lunch.
- We will provide afternoon snacks
for the seminar.
Dani’s Hours for August 11 - 19
- Dani will work Friday, August
12; Thursday, August 18; and Friday, August 19.
LSC Employee Guide
- Pam has updated guide. Rick
will review.
- We will put Employee Guide on
our website.
College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA)
- Pam will update our list of CRLA
tutors.
- CRLA certifies programs; The
National Tutor Association (NTA) certifies tutors. Rick will get information
on NTA for tutors who may be interested.
August 12
- Rick and Richard will leave at
11:00 to attend at meeting.
- Alison has the afternoon off
and will leave at 12:00.
- Johnna will cover the front desk
from 12:00 to 3:00.
- Dani will cover the front desk
from 3:00 to 5:00.
August 15 All Employee Meeting
- Dani and Rodney will attend.
Whiteboard in Math Center
- We will put up a whiteboard on
the wall by the College Algebra tables.
Online Tutoring
- We will start developing math
(and possibly writing) online tutoring this semester and will pilot it
in the Spring, with plans to put it into effect in fall of 2006.
Casual Days
- Friday and Saturdays are casual
dress days, with Saturday more casual than Friday.
Next Staff Meeting
- The next staff meeting is scheduled
for Wednesday, August 17, from 2:30 – 3:30.
