Staff
Meeting Minutes
August 30, 2005
In Attendance: Rick Sheets, Johnna
Anderson, Alison Livingston, Pam Komarek, Dani Pierce
These items are the major
points discussed.
Just Say No
- Rick noted that Ikon is picking
up copiers around the campus. If anyone comes to the LSC to remove our copier,
“just say no” and have them speak with Rick.
Copying
- An instructor has indicated to
students that they may get copies made in the LSC. Rick will ask the instructor
to place the information on reserve in the library, as they have a pay copy
machine available for student use.
- Copies made by staff & faculty
should be limited to 5 copies. Copies in excess of that number should be
sent to the Copy Center on campus.
- Copy Center duplicating forms should be available
to faculty in the faculty and staff resource room.
Computers
- Use of MCCCD computing resources
shall be limited to stated guidelines in the MCCCD Blue Book. Note: Rick
stated that no LSC employee computers should be used for games. If games
are currently on an employee’s computer, they should be removed. The MCCCD
guidelines do not provide computer access for employees’ recreation.
- Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer
browsers will be requested to be loaded on all computers for student access.
- Students who “just need to print”
should be directed to use the Computer Commons.
- Staff will not “police” internet
usage by students; however, inappropriate computer use noticed by staff
should be brought to the student’s attention and if it becomes a problem,
to LSC administration.
- Rick will see about setting the
student computer to automatically turn on and off at the beginning and end
of the business day (on at 7am, off at 10pm).
- Rick will see if and when the
Deep Freeze software can be reset to adjust the volume controls on student
computers so they turn on at ½ volume. Until then, opening staff should
be setting the volume when the computers are turned on in the mornings.
- Staff accessing documents on the
LSC server were reminded to close the documents when finished reviewing
or editing. Otherwise, it may limit access by other LSC staff needing access.
- Staff was reminded to retrieve
printed documents from the administrative printer as soon as possible after
printing; unclaimed ‘leftovers’ will be placed in the box and brought to
staff meetings for identification.
Pens & Misc.
- The front desk staff was asked
to keep an eye on the pen supply. National Pen, the vendor, is prepared
to accept another order, and other promotional materials are available for
ordering.
- Johnna will be making new LSC
phone directory cards on yellow index cards for each telephone.
- Pam requested staff members to
bring their biographies to the next staff meeting.
- The Flavia coffee system is a
hit – we have only had two “complaints – one re: cost, another re: flavors
available.
- Staff meeting minutes will no
longer be recorded. Minutes will be emailed to Rick by noon on Thursday (stated as Thursday
or Friday and has been amended to noon on Thursday), and forwarded on
to the LSC staff distribution list by Friday noon and posted to the website @ LSC/staff
by Monday, noon.
Tutor Training
- Rick noted that several learning
logs had not been returned from Thursday 8/18.
- Tutors not returning their learning
logs were given a second form and asked to complete it and return the form
to Rick.
Online Tutoring Tutor Training
- Rick asked for feedback regarding
the Online Tutoring services. Online tutoring is available for ACC, BIO,
CHM, ECN, ENG, MAT, PHI, PSY and REL. Rick will look into the number of
‘hits’ the website has gotten recently.
- The English writing online tutoring
information is duplicated on the LSC website.
Faculty and Staff Resource Room
- Mac computers print to E151; Dells
to E184 (both are the HP laser printer in the Faculty Staff Resource Room)
- May need a sign for FSRR for paper
usage – Please Limit Printing to 2 Copies Per Document – Draft and Final.
- Lexar Secure jump drives won’t
save on FSRR computers because of interference from Deep Freeze software.
Other jump drives will work, although users may need to log out and log
back into the computer before the drive becomes available.
- May need a sign for FSRR to read:
After 5 p.m., please shut off your computer when leaving.
PASS
- Alison, Gloria and Johnna will
rotate lunches and cover the front desk for PASS time
(12:30 p.m. – 1:30
p.m.), M-R
- PASS time rooms are reserved until
1:30 p.m., Dani will check rooms upon her arrival at the
LSC to see that all athletes are aware that their ‘reserved’ time is over.
- Students may be discouraged from
placing their feet on chairs, depending on the situation.
Next Staff Meeting

for Tuesday, September 6, from 2:30
– 3:30.
