Welcome and Agenda Overview
- Welcome back to Esther!
- Thank you and kudos to the Learning Support Team for stepping up to support the vacant Dean LT position (Jennifer, Carol, Sheri, and Mary Lou)
Diversity Ad Hoc Team Update
- Research re: multicultural affairs is broad and variable
- Considering work detailed in book “Shifting Paradigms in Student Affairs” by R. Pope which showcases a multicultural organizational assessment model
- What does a multicultural inclusive model look like? (Full PPT presentation can be downloaded from Mike Ho’s ePortfolio on http://eport.maricopa.edu—search for “Ho”)
- Big agenda—this topic will be a standing agenda item and factored into our larger operational planning
- Next steps? Look at systemic goal (student success is equally distributed across all groups...) => want to work toward that systemic change
- Disaggregate data of the users of our areas to see if they are representative of students at the college
- Portfolio of activities that help us meet goal of inclusiveness and success
- How do we leverage this to move toward our goal?
- Create student focus groups to gather more intentional data (include graduates)
- Create LSS ePortfolio to showcase what’s being done
Items for Follow-Up
- Equipment Check Out procedures (refer to email sent by Sandy McDill)
- County Sheriff investigations are continuing
- If you are approached by the Sheriff’s department for an interview, please know that the District Legal Office is available to you for any assistance
- Blue Ribbon Panel Information => matrix summary provided at meeting; read the recommendations and become familiar with the new regulations
Assessment
- LSC
- Incorporating general education rubrics into our assessment efforts
- MAT108 Assessment => tutors/instructors show students how to problem solve in Math
- Need to provide more tools to tutors and more training
- Assessment is a learning process to us, not easy, but getting there
- iGoal
- Sending survey to all users (students/faculty/staff); a Likert scale asking what’s been learned
- Created a rubric to determine how well goals are written (~1,000-1,500 goals in the system now)
- Have used the rubric on a sample of goals and checked inter-rater reliability
- Want to see if there are areas with higher/lower scores on the rubric to direct changes to iGoal program
- It is very important to ask more about our students
- There has been little research between goal setting and student success => touch back on vision of iGoal is part of PVCC in every area
- Advising has created a detailed plan on how they are going to integrate iGoal (plan shared at meeting); send suggestions regarding the process or ideas how to work with Advising
- Continue to look in to ways iGoal is integrated into all areas
College Carry Forward
- May be more than anticipated
- Will convene an LSS budget work session to re-prioritize the reinstated funds (30 min)
Paul Golish

- Many things on his plate
- Sheri will continue to oversee Media through June 30; others will reinstate and report to Paul G.
Planning, Budget, and Review Committee
- If you are interested in serving on this committee, contact Sheri B.
Shared Governance
- President, VPs, Deans have had two meetings with the Golden Gavels (past faculty presidents) to address improving and increasing shared governance
- Trying to make better decisions for the college
- Faculty requesting increased representation on a number of college committees
- Reconvening College Capital Development Committee
Intercollegiate Baseball
- Fall 2008 planned implementation
- Operational expenses come from a direct allocation from District, then athletics, and fund 2 => finite amount of money to build facility
- Jane is bringing out PVCC master plan architect to check in access points as it related to the County Library and the baseball field location
Prop 300
- Added additional documentation that can be used to verify status
- Students are complying with little fuss
- Have we assessed how this impacts our enrollments yet?
- Enrollment in Opportunity Grants, ESL courses
- May be too early to track
- District estimated lost of 300 students
- Word is out on the streets; fears of immigration problems will keep some away
iStartSmart
- Students filling out form, attending orientation, registering for course; April 30 orientation is full
- List of names for potential Orientation Leaders is small => please send names to Amber
- Want to fill 16 positions
- Students will be committing to 50 hours of work, 40 hours of training, get a stipend
Good of the Order
