Announcements
- LSS Division meetings will start on time
- Time will be spent in these meetings for more dialogue, less monologue and provide more community building
Good of the Order / Pending Issues
- Commons updates (2 handouts)
- Women’s soccer players are awesome! Good students, good study hall participation
- Second week of October will be Career Week, Career Fair 10/12 evening (will have 50 employers here)
- Deadlines for PEAK applications; have 22 applicants; some still trickling in => looking for PEAK advisor (iGoal, expose to resources, guidance re: opportunities to get involved in on campus)
- 10/7-13 national Tutor Appreciation Week; LSC will celebrate
Personnel Updates
- Director of Advising recommendation sent to District
- Search in process for Dean IT => interim structure for technology services shared
- ACE/SUCCEED Coordinator position open; will advertise in a week
- Student Leadership Program Specialist; one candidate moved forward
SIS Update
- Carol Myers take responsibility as CIT lead
- CIT meeting first Friday of the month; project is ramped up => database to start mapping training mid-late Nov
- Website updated; project status, project plan (dashboard) http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/nss
- Mid Oct marked increase in staff time in project assessing, testing, etc.
Assessment
- Assessment plans due WED 9/27
- Oct 13, 1:30-3:30, out of class assessment workshop (not optional)
- 2-4 areas have been targeted for gen ed assessment
- Exploring the use of a standardized measurement or instrument for all to share (i.e., iGoal)
Budget
- Fund 1 managers => college going through adjustment to match budgets with actual revenue
- Flat enrollment amount OYO $ less than expected
- Strategy is to reduce all APB requests 30% and Fund 1 by 10%
- Will meet with managers individually => cuts will be reinstated next year
- Fund 2 to augment Fund 1 as last resort
Student Success Pilot Update
- Under-prepared student advisory committee => mandatory orientation, assessment, advising to help increase student success
- Step-by-step overview
- Skip Downing will training faculty in COl101 (3-day course) (Oct 5-7)
- Look how to integrate into new SIS system
- Pilot/dry run of orientation
- Student Success Scholarships to help cover 1.0 cr. class (for student who are eligible for financial aid)
- Challenge to do this in an artful way, same amount of time but richer
- Group advisement will also be challenge
iGoal Implementation
- Have provided a number of staff/class trainings; 600 students, many faculty using
- Continuous improvement => send suggestions
- Can ticklers/suggestions be input? => put in new student portal; listserve from IA => work suggestion into plans when working one-on-one with students
- If don’t know where they’re going, won’t be successful => continuously strive to incorporate goals into all aspects of life at PVCC
- Follow-up very important to help students establish good goals
Division Focus, Departmental Goals/Targets
- Spend more time having conversations on how to be more focused as a division
- Think about 1-2 targets that you can set now that can benchmark against by June 30; 1-2 areas different/better by June 30
- iGoal => qualitative/quantitative outcomes
- Where do we want to be vs. where we’ve been
- Use iGoal, list Paul as email contact
