    Present
    Announcements
    • First joint meeting with the new collective group, “welcome back” to everyone
    • Welcome to Donna Simon, new Director of Advising and Recruiting
      • Just moved from Illinois
      • First time working at a community college, although she is a product of the community college system herself
      • Looking forward to meeting with each of the managers to learn about your areas and seeing if any collaborations with advising can be set up
    • General introductions of the group
    Information Items

    • APB
o If enrollments are flat next year, there will not be any new money
      • Priorities will go toward existing OYO; if you have a current OYO being funding this year and need it to continue, submit a new OYO request for 07-08
      • New position submittals should be done for only those positions with the highest levels of immediate need
      • It is the goal of the College to reinstate the 10 percent operational cuts
    • LSS Web
      • Updating the look and usability of the LSS Division web page
      • Plans to update the site weekly and use it as a communications tool
    • MAT Evaluations
      • MAT Evals are due at the end of December
      • Start scheduling time on Paul’s calendar; prior to meeting:
        • Provide narrative on this year’s accomplishments and an overview of your own effectiveness
        • Include a copy of your goals and objectives for the year
        • Include a copy of your assessment report
      • For those who report to Dr. Green, continue with the established processes as stipulated by Dr. Green
    • Reclass
      • PVCC is planning to create an interface process to the existing MAT/PSA reclassification process; the idea is to put some intent and thought to the reclassification process on campus
      • Want to put together a strategy for planning that occurs before people start the reclass process
      • Need to keep in mind that for every reclassification that is proposed, there is a budget issue/impact tied to it
    • Student Listserv
      • 7,500 on listserve, names taken from SIS
      • IA is working on guidelines for the use of the listserve
        • College-wide activities (don’t use for specific group advertising)
      • Question: How often does it get updated (Carol looking in to creating some type of automatic update that can occur regularly)
      • Question: Is there ever going to be a listserv created specific for majors? (Carol says the infrastructure is there, they just need to build the specifics; will follow-up)
      • General reaction to the reorganized look and tools for the web site is positive, like the updates on what’s happening on campus
      • Question: Are we investigating providing emails for all students? (Carol says they’ve investigated this in the past but the general reaction seems to be that most students already have an email account they prefer to use; Carol will speak with her contact at ASU to see what kind of success/problems they encountered by switching to Googlemail)
    • Procards
      • Make sure to follow college policy
    • Faculty Convocation 2007
      • Kay McClenney will be the Convocation speaker => want to create a college-wide study team to consider implications of Kay’s thoughts on implementing iGoal and iStartSmart
      • Volunteers: Rick Sheet, Jim Rubin, Carol Myers, Amber West Martin, Ken Clark, Paul Dale (names will be forwarded to Bob to be added to the college team)
    iStartSmart

    • In the process of creating a course “College 101-type course” (going through Curriculum process); for fall the course was listed as AAA150AB
    • New course will be called AAA115/CPD115 and be listed under both areas
    • New course will be “housed” in Counseling Division because it was determined there was no administrative process in place (instructor selection, review of qualifications, scheduling, etc.) to support it if kept independent of all divisions; nothing else changes in the course design except that the logistical support will go through Counseling Division
    • Currently have 26 sections in the spring schedule
    • Financial aid is providing money as an enticement for needy students
    • Although Counseling will handle administrative support of the course, MAT, PSA and Faculty will be teaching the course
    • Signing up many students at the new student orientations going on around campus this fall; had 23 sessions scheduled and offered three to date (fourth will be 11/17)
    • Most students have given positive feedback to the presentations and are appreciative of the suggestions
    • Use of iGoal is becoming more prevalent
    • Question: Should we sponsor books for needy students; have a set available for check-out? Will investigate option of putting 20 books on reserve in the library
    • Laurie in Testing reports that they are not getting a lot of opposition to new testing process, in fact students appear to be happy with the “one stop” process
    SIS Implementation

    • Colleges are doing testing at District from 11/27-1/5
    • Report testing will start in January
    • End to end testing will be done from January to March (de-bug system)
    • A resource plan is being put together on what we might do when people are taken from their jobs for training for backfill (thinking creatively)
    Express College

    • Idea is to offer compressed time frame and different entry points for students to take courses
    • Students are wanting to come in and get what they need as quickly as possible
    • Exploring options so students can complete a degree within 1, 1.5, or 2 years
    • 1,500 students living in our feeder zip codes take courses at Rio
    • 6,000 students living in our feeder zip codes take courses at other Maricopa colleges
    Middle College

    • In the planning process trying to determine who the stakeholders are
    • Need to change the name because research shows “Middle College” is more closely associated with the idea we call dual enrollment
    • One idea we’re exploring is the option of having students graduating high school and PVCC at same time
    Assessment

    • Almost 100% of plans have been received; only a few remaining
    • Out-of-class assessment committee provided feedback to those submitted by the deadline; will forward results to you soon
    • Copy of last year’s Assessment Cup winner was sent via email as an example of best practices
    • General Education Workshops
      • Follow-up to 10/13 meeting being planned for December (tentative)
      • Volunteers to look over competencies:
        • Oral/Written (Jim and Heather)
        • Written (Paula)
        • Tuturing/MAT108 (Rick)
        • Problem Solving (Jo Ann)
      • Participation form from Paul Marsh can be emailed to you if you want to help
      • Planning future workshops as working sessions, considering a Friday session over lunch for an informal discussion in December
    • Assessment Manual
      • Housing the document in a general location (Tina will hold master copy)
      • Revisions are in process and, once complete, new manuals will be forwarded to all managers
    • Assessment Plans submitted have been formatted into a single document; will do the same for the Assessment Reports at the end of the year
    iGoal Implementation

    • George has a lot of “to dos”; Jennifer is working with George via email to tackle the list
    • Have received a ton of feedback with numerous suggestions; although we haven’t acted on them all, we are in the process of making the suggested changes
    • This year we are trying to get the “bugs” out of the system (both technically and the process of administering on campus) => want this to be used as a concrete way to engage students
    • Accepted to present at the League for Innovation Conference in March
    Discussion Items

    • Maricopa in the News
      • District has come under some scrutiny by the media the past few weeks
      • This is just the “tip of the iceberg,” the papers are continuing to issue public information requests
      • Media coverage is disappointing because they are taking discrete items and lumping them together and presenting them as a trend
      • Share your concerns...
        • Is there any intentional response in reaction to this?
        • Chris Chesrown from SCC has been temporarily reassigned to District to handle crisis communications
        • Check out the District Governance “Public Records are...” site (http://www.maricopa.edu/legal/pr/index.htm)
        • When making decisions, consider the “Does it pass the front page?” test => we are government employees
        • Can we be more intentional in what is reported to the media, perhaps showcasing efforts? (Any employee can respond publicly with their own points of view as a citizen and offer reaction or positive examples)
        • If you get an external request, forward to IA for response
    • Focus
      • Will come back to this at the next meeting
      • Consider the following for the December Team meeting
