PARADISE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
COMMITTEE AND PROJECT TEAM MEETING REPORT
MAT POLICY GROUP

Minutes from MAT Meeting 10/4/05

Members present: Donna Roach, Chrystle Hall, Judi Anderson, Paul Marsh, Jennifer Strickland, Bob Duke

United Way for PVCC
We had a guest speaker, Mike Trier, from district who spoke to us about the importance of contributing to United Way. He showed us a video about one of the United Way funded programs called Results that Matter . This program focuses on preparing preschoolers (age 1-6) to be ready to learn when they enter school, job training for adults, and providing shelter and support for the homeless and women & children in abusive situations. Mike asked us to consider checking the Results that Matter checkbox when we fill out our United Way contribution forms.

We will be receiving our United Way packets this month. Donna gave us the breakdown for PV's past performance:

2000-01 $12,743 52 employees participating
2002-03 $12,885 69 employees participating
2003-04 $16,812 87 employees participating
2004-05 $11,979 82 employees participating

There was discussion on how low the participation, both in dollars and in number of employees, has been and on ideas for how we can encourage 100% participation in MAT this year.

* Donna was asked to see if she can get a breakdown of our past United Way performance by employee group and also a breakdown of how PV compares to other colleges.
* This year there will be a competition between PV employee groups to see which group can have the highest % of their members participate by making a United Way contribution.
* MAT's goal is to have 100% competition. We need two teams to make desktop visits to MAT members to collect contribution pledge and form, even if it's just a one-time contribution of what they can make from their wallet that day. This will be done the 3rd & 4th weeks of October after everyone has received their United Way packets. Donna and Judi volunteered as a team. We need 2 more MAT volunteers to help.

If you would like to volunteer to help Judi and Donna make MAT visits to help us reach our goal of 100% MAT participation in the United Way campaign, please call or email Donna Roach.

Community Service Project
MAT and PSA will be working together at the Westside Food Bank in Surprise on Saturday, November 19, 8:00-12:00 packing food boxes for needy families. We need 6 volunteers from MAT for this project. We will schedule a school van so we can carpool from the college. Participants will meet at PV at 7:00 am if they wish to ride in the van or at the Westiside Food Bank at 8:00 am if they wish to drive their own car. It was suggested that the group could go to lunch afterwards. Paul Marsh volunteered; we need 5 more MAT volunteers.

If you would like to volunteer to help pack food boxes at the Westside Food Bank, please call or email Donna Roach.

President's Leadership Council
Donna reported on the PLC meeting she recently attended. The subject was Enrollment Growth. College funding is based on projected enrollment growth. If enrollment growth falls short of what was projected, this has negative financial impact on the colleges. PV's projected growth for this year was 7% and the actual was 8%. But, some of the larger, older colleges are falling below their projected growth. PLC had a discussion on what kind of programs can help PV's enrollment to continue to grow. Suggestions from PLC were Nursing, the Aquatic Center, EMT/Fire Science. Donna suggested the Senior programs. Many of the seniors who have attended Silver Sneakers or other non-credit classes at PV are now also enrolling in credit classes. They are available to attend classes at times when other students won't.

MAT Membership
We have 45 MAT members, but only 23 have paid their dues so far. Dues are $25 with $15 going to District and $10 remaining with PV. Dues should be paid to our treasurer, Esther Schon. Donna will send emails to unpaid MAT members, and we will make visits to encourage payment of dues.

This "Meeting Report" is my interpretation of what occurred during the meeting. If you would like to correct an error, make an addition, or ask questions, please call me at 77784.

Thank you!
