Staff Trains for Emergencies
Members of PVCC's Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT) recently completed intensive three-day FEMA training in Multi-Hazard Emergency Management for Higher Education. The course was designed to provide institutions with knowledge and planning strategies to "protect lives, property, and the environment by supporting operations more effectively within the context of comprehensive emergency management. Coursework was supplemented by numerous in-class exercises, including a real-life, real-time, functional emergency situation at fictional Columbia State University, with all participants taking on specific roles in the Incident Command System (ICS). The "emergency" at CSU included a protest gone wild, active shooter and hostage situations, and IT systems crash, all occurring nearly simultaneously. Pictured are PVCC's team members (L-R): Bob Metivier, Director of Facilities Services, Maintenance & Operations; Dr. Julia Moore, Director of Development & Community Relations; Herman Gonzalez, Vice President of Administrative Services; Candace Oehler, Director of Marketing & Communications; and Public Safety Commander Scott Meek.
