By combining sophisticated compositions and virtuosic improvising, the Grammy nominated group Kneebody has created a diverse, loyal fan base in the United States and Europe. Founded in 2001, Kneebody has built upon an impressive array of individual resumes and conservatory training to create a truly singular voice within the instrumental world.
In 2005 Kneebody released their debut album "Kneebody" on Dave Douglas' Greenleaf Music Label. In 2007 they followed up with "Low Electrical Worker" on the Colortone Label. A collection of 13 original songs, "Low Electrical Worker" was hailed by saxophonist Joshua Redman as one of his "favorite albums of 2007". In the spring of 2009, Kneebody and vocalist Theo Bleckmann released "12 Songs of Charles Ives" on the Winter & Winter label and received a Grammy nomination in the "classical crossover" category. Kneebody is presently touring in support of their third studio album, "You Can Have Your Moment," also on the Winter & Winter label.

The Formalist Quartet is an ensemble dedicated to the performance of adventurous repertoire focusing on contemporary pieces and world premiers as well as exploring a diverse spectrum of early music and the standard repertoire. The quartet was born on the 100th birthday of Dmitri Shostakovich (September 25th, 2006) and since then has been playing frequently across the United States in concert halls, festivals, art galleries, cafes, and homes, including the Roy O. Disney Hall at CalArts; REDCAT at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Los Angeles; the Wulf, Los Angeles; University of California, San Diego; Stanford University; University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee; the Flatfile Galleries, Chicago; University of Nevada, Reno; Cornelia Street Cafe, New York; MOSA Concert Series, New York; Princeton University; the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts; the Villa Aurora, Pacific Palisades; University of Maryland, Baltimore County; LISTEN/SPACE, New York; Hamiltonian Gallery, Washington DC; ArtSpace Herndon, Virginia; Villa Aurora, Pacific Palisades; and the Et Cetera New Music Festival. In 2010 the quartet appeared at the Reykjavic Arts Festival, Iceland. Their recordings include the epic 100 Cadences of Arthur Jarvinen, music for several small films and pop records, and Kristian Ireland’s "Clearing" on the <541> series through Innova records. This season the quartet is looking forward to performances throughout Southern CA as they celebrate their 5th anniversary.

In music, the cheap stuff doesn’t stick around long. Whether it’s the current crop of teen fluff or the latest disposable dance-music trend, almost immediately after it appears it’s already discarded in favor of the next big blip on the media radar. What does last is music that’s well performed, well recorded, and, above all, well written. Timeless music that totally grabs you every time you hear it and stays in your head long after that. The kind of music New York band Johnny Society’s been making for nearly 20 years. With its soulful hard-pop sound, Johnny Society has drawn critical gushing and found rabid fans in listeners who gravitate toward the real thing—such as famed producer Rick Rubin, the Kinks’ Ray Davies, and Cheap Trick’s Robin Zander. “These guys are true walking art forms with music running through their veins,” raves Zander. And it’s that same heartfelt, roots-heavy music that pumps its way straight from the band’s pulsing arteries and out through your speakers the instant you drop the needle on Johnny Society’s astonishing sixth album, Free Society.
A collection of the band’s best songs to date, Free Society reminds music lovers that Johnny Society knows where the “classic” in classic rock really comes from: catchy, affecting sounds that hint at 1920s New Orleans, 1950s Memphis, 1960s London, 1970s Woodstock, and, in this case, 2010s New York. And like the great music of the former eras it’s music that will sound just as amazing a few decades down the line as it does now. As evidence, take the addictive opener “So Quick to Turn,” which pairs a funky, reggae-fied backbeat with greasy Southern horns and a soaring, psychedelic bridge. Or the seething, slashing hard rock of “Stabbed in the Back.” Or the redemptive, gospel-tinged resignation of “Well Well Well.” It’s not only a love of fine music itself that fuels these songs, but a depth of human experience as well.
Kenny Siegal (lead vocals, guitar, keyboards) began Johnny Society in 1995. With drummer Brian Geltner and bassist Gwen Snyder he forms the core of the band, which over the years has been augmented by numerous revolving guests. Free Society’s stellar participants include adjunct band members keyboardist Ed Pastorini (101 Crustacean, Elysian Fields, Joan as Policewoman) and trombonist Sam Kulik (Skeletons, Nervous Cabaret), and studio contributors singer Langhorne Slim, legendary keyboardist Garth Hudson (The Band), and others.
The album was co-produced by Siegal, Geltner, and Bryce Goggin (Ramones, Pavement, Sean Lennon) at Siegal’s Old Soul Studios in Catskill, New York, and Goggins’ Trout Recording in Brooklyn. Like the best landmark albums, it’s packed top to bottom with deep, sonically rich songs that move the listener to their core and reveal new aural and emotional layers with every spin. All of which only means one thing, really: If you dig truly great rock ’n’ roll, you should be spinning Free Society yourself. Right now.

Casey Lee Hurt is the only son to a rebellious, God fearing ex-preacher. At an early age he was handed a pawn shop guitar and an old hymnal and they haven’t left his side since. He’s black coffee honest from the history in his voice to the heart on his sleeve and his music reflects that. Artists like Van Morrison, Ryan Adams and Ray Lamontagne resonate in his soul and have uniquely shaped the sound and story that is Casey Hurt.
Casey spent most of 2010/2011 either on the road touring or in the recording studio. His most recent album “Mended Souls” debuted in the top 25 on the iTunes singer songwriter charts. Also, Casey’s song “Come To Me” was featured on the CW’s “One Tree Hill” along side of artist like Ray Lamontagne, The Black Keys and The Carey Brothers. Casey has also had music featured on shows like Bar Karma and Current TV.
While on tour last year, Casey created quite the buzz for himself. He played a sold out show at the legendary Hotel Cafe’ with Tyrone Wells. He also sold out shows in Santa Monica and Santa Cruz California as well a Corvallis and Portland Oregon. His music has also been featured on radio stations up and down the west coast like Seattle’s KEXP and Los Angeles’s KCRW.
