Review Bylaws
- We changed our bylaws and voted on them.
Advisor’s Report
- Paula –
- Tried to send flyer but Jeremy did not set it up right so it was sent back to her.
- Has all the cookies tomorrow for founders day from 10am-1pm.
Officer’s Report
- Jenny won the All USA Academic Scholarship.
- Kristine –
- $3,462.75 in PTK account.
- Pulled out $200.00 of petty cash for cookies for Founder’s Day.

Adopt a Family
- PTK is going down to the SLC to pick a couple of items for members to get.
- If we adopt a family we have to find how to get the gifts to the family or where.
Invisible Children
- An event that we are thinking about doing next semester.
- PTK is going to try and show the movie and then have a representative from Invisible Children to speak.
Adopt a Street
- Student Life cleans up the street they adopted.
- If you can go and help that would be great.
- It is from 9am-12pm on Friday, November 20th so stop by the Student Life if you can help.

Regional Project (Trek against Trash)
- Was real good.
- Made some sort of impact.
- Did get some statistics on the amount of trash and recyclables.
- Great opportunity to bond together as PTK.
- Gozie is going to be sending the information from the event.

- Stephen wants VPs to start putting together their Hallmarks.
- Anita submitted an application to be PTK’s Public Relations position.
- Gozie put out on the floor for Anita to fill our Public Relations position.
- Paula wanted to remind officers that the SLC PTK computer if for PTK work only, and not for socialization to leave the area.

Car Wash

- November 14th from 10am to 2pm at the Taco Bell by Costco.
- Need to fill out an Event Planning Form and submit it to Paula.

Regional Project (Trek against Trash)
- Need supplies
- Clothes face masks, trash bags, booties, tarps and gloves.
- Will have assigned tasks if no one volunteers for a certain task.
- Please wear your Phi Theta Kappa shirts.
- Meet at PVCC at 7:30am and will end around 12:00pm.
Advisor’s Report
- Petty cash for buying supplies for the bake sale.
- Vanessa and Jenny are taking care of it; Paula and Kristine are also going to work out the petty cash.
- Trek against Trash
- PTK will not be having an advisor at event.
- Gozie said that he talked with Ryan and that she approved.
- Need to get safety forms signed.

Induction Ceremony Information
- Will be held on October 14th in the SLC.
- Gozie gave a little information about the ceremony and how nice it is.
- People are allowed to bring guests.
- Members need to RSVP with Stephen Nicoloff.
- Stephen needs to get together with someone who is going to get the flowers and candles.
- Derick and Jeremy is going to take care of flowers and candles.
- Stephen is taking care of food and decorations and the program.
Vote on New Officers
- Beth and Derick are running for VP of Leadership.
- Derick received more votes and was voted in as the new VP of Leadership.

- There are officer’s positions still open.
Regional Project
- Possible ideas:
- Going from a street to a park cleaning up.
- Sorting through the trash to what is recyclable and what is not.
- Trying to get in contact with park officials to find the best place to clean up.
- College Republicans and the Education Club verified that they will help clean up on the 24th.
- Derick is going to send out and email vote to the Google group.

- Officers have to be at the induction ceremony at 4:30pm.
- Paula and Gozie have to talk about the certificates.
- Sue is taking care of the cake and table clothes.
- PTK needs to get candles for ceremony.
- Gozie is going to present the 9/11 Event proceeds check to the Veterans Club at the ceremony.
- Possibly have a sign-in sheet.
- Derick, Nick and Misty are going to do the welcoming and sign-in for the induction ceremony.
- Still have not received our $250.00 from the SLC.
- Paula still has to submit the bake sale papers to Ryan, but Paula has all of the information.

- It went really well.
- Student Leadership Counsel expressed gratitude.
- Around forty people attended.
- The Anime Club showed up to support.
- Received really good positive reinforcement from Paul Dale, Bill Hart and Mike Ho.
- Chris Hunt and Mike Ho really helped PTK out with the event.
- Vanessa made a motion to donate all the proceeds to Veterans Services, Derick seconded, all members voted yes.
- Advisors Comments:
- The glitch was fixed on the membership website.
- Induction Ceremony, Stephen will talk to Mike Ho and Paul Dale and ask them to speak for the ceremony.
- PTK Orientation on 09/23/09 from 1-2 and 5-6.
- PTK is not having a meeting on 09/23/09 due to the Orientation.

- Called prisons and got no response so far.
- Bake Sale:
- Put a message up on the Google group about the bake sale.
- Ask Steve about kitchen times.

- Going to have a Halloween theme.
- Going to bake on October 27th and sell the 28th.
- Send an email to Stephen to ask for help from members.
- Vanessa has to work with Paula on this.
- Also going to sell coffee and cupcakes at 7:30am.

- Working on getting scholarships.
- She is talking with Paula.
- Going to send an email out about scholarships.
- Gozie brought up Salt River Clean Up. It will be on September 26.
- Does PTK want to do as an official PTK event?
- Send out email to see how many people want to help.
- Derick wants to make an official function because: “The Salt River is a source of enjoyment used by many people in the local community and is consequently heavily affected by this use. This gives specific poignancy to the site as a location of great local importance.”
- Gozie is going to fill out forms and send to Stephen so he can submit them.
- The event would start around 6am and end around 12pm.
- Ask Paula if she can go so that we can make an official event and go as a PTK group.
- Regionals have a project coming up called Trek for Trash.
- Possibly doing the project downtown, or in parks.
- Research some areas in the community that need some kind of recycling
- Derick want to know if we are going to do the project at the school
- Gozie said no because it is just for the month of November and PTK wants us to go out into the community.
- Want to present to all clubs on campus and reach out to community to try to get them involved.
- We are going to discuss specifics at the next meeting.

- Ignite has to go through district so PTK is waiting and it is tentative and we are wondering if we should do the event.

The meeting was called to order at 1:05 pm with Gozie, Vanessa, Nick, Paula, Stephen, Jeremy, Misty, Jenny, DeeJay, Michael, Melanie, Nathan, Kristine, Beth and Jahneshia in attendance.
- There was a brief introduction of the members and the visitors. Stephen gave some information about Phi Theta Kappa to the visitors.
- During the meeting people put the labels on the envelopes that are being mailed to potential members.
- Gozie talked about the Team Building night. PTK went bowling on August 29th. He also said that we were going to be having more team building nights. PTK’s next team building will be the last Saturday in September.
At the meeting, the Never Forget 9/11 Event was discussed. The following information was collected.
- Thursday (9/10) morning at 7am PTK will put the flags up and will take them down Friday (9/11) night at 6pm.
- AZ Federation of College Republicans is going to donate the flags to PTK and possible co-host the event with us.
- PTK needs to keep a list of the people who buy a flag and want to keep it once we take them down Friday night.
- Nick is working on inviting elected officials to come and speak on Friday for the Never Forget 9/11 Event.
- Gozie and Nick are going to talk to some veterans about sharing some of their experiences.
- The Veterans Group on campus is possibly thinking of putting up a table next to ours to advertise for the group.
- PTK is going to be selling the flags Tuesday-Friday from 10am-2pm.
- Paula needs to request a cash box, table and a tent for the event. She also has to submit the event to the school and wait for approval.
- Fifty percent of the proceeds will go to PVCC’s Veterans Services and fifty percent will go to travel for Phi Theta Kappa.
- Cheryl from Veterans Service is going to help PTK with advertisement for the event.
- Paula is going to be sending out the new updated planning events sheets.
- With the Induction ceremony coming up, the officers will be calling potential members.

- Jenny – Poker match for faculty
- She is making sure all the rules are being followed.
- Vanessa – Book Drive
- The money from the books is sent to Africa for a literacy program.
- PTK has left over books from last semester.
- We need to figure out what to do with the left over books.
- Possibly donate them to a shelter or a prison.
- Vanessa was wondering if we wanted to book drives every semester including this semester.
- PTK voted on doing the book drive every semester including this Fall.

- Vanessa – Bake Sale
- Found out that the kitchen closes at 8pm.
- Wants to have the bake sale once a month.
- DeeJay – Business Cards
- DeeJay is still working on the cards.
- He is going to put “Find us on Facebook” on the cards.
- The cards should be ready by Monday September 7th.

In the meeting, we discussed the Never Forget 9/11 Event coming up. The following information was collected.
- PTK needs $150.00 for “9/11”
- If PTK has a profit off of selling the flags, 50% of the profit, after the cost of the flags is deducted, will donate to the PVCC Veterans Program. The other 50% of the profit will go towards Regionals and/or Internationals.
- Misty is going to send an email to Stephen, asking him to send an email to request a mass email be sent to the students new g-mail accounts with the information pertaining to Never Forget 9/11 event.
- Have PTK members ask their teachers if they can make an announcement about the 9/11 event.
- Derick is going to ask the people at computer commons if they can change the screen saver to advertise Never Forget 9/11.
- PTK is going to try and get veterans involved with the event.
- Nick wants to get a couple of veterans to share their experience on that Thursday before 09/11 and Friday.
- Gozie is going to ask Charlene to ask some veterans to share their experience.
- PTK is going to make sandwich boards with info for the event.
- Nick is going to type up a blurb for the Never Forget 9/11 event to be posted on the PVCC Homepage.
- Who is going to set up for the table for the selling of the flags?
- Have to find out if PTK can pay the $300.00 in cash.
- Paula and/or Stephen are going to request a tent and the library panels.
- Elva is going to create a display for the Never Forget 9/11 event and set it up outside the library.

- Office hours were talked about and they will start the second week of school. If the officers want they can start the first week of school.
- Gozie’s office hours: 1pm-2pm on Mondays
- Nick’s office hours: 4pm-5pm on Tuesdays
- Jenny’s office hours: 12pm-1pm on Tuesdays
- The other officers need to consult their schedule to set their office hours.
- PTK team building Bowling Night
- August 29th at 6pm at AMF at Bell Road and 30th Street.
- PTK talked about possibly doing a 50, 50 raffle for fundraising for the Never Forget 9/11 event. Nick will find out if we are allowed to do this.
- PTK is also considering making this team building event a monthly thing.
- We need to invite potential members to the Bowling Night.
- Also, if PTK goes as a group we have to pay ahead of time. This might be a problem?
- Phi Theta Kappa’s Orientation is coming up. It will be held twice on September 23rd. Once during the day from 1pm – 2pm, and the second during the evening from 5pm – 6pm.
- Phi Theta Kappa’s is having the Induction Ceremony on October 14th from 5pm to 7:30pm.
- PTK official meetings will be held every Wednesday from 1pm – 2pm.
Events were discussed and further planned.
- Never Forget 9/11
- Nick needs help fundraising the final $300.00 needed for the flags.
- PTK wants the flags set up from 09/10 – 09/14.
- PTK wants a table up to sell flags from 09/08 – 09/10.
- Adopt a flag for $1.00.
- Adopt a flag and a name tag for $2.00
- Donations will be accepted at the table also.
- Misty will punch the name tags for the flags.
- Sarah is going to make a flyer for Never Forget 9/11.
- The library will loan PTK a panel so that we can advertise for Never Forget 9/11.
- PTK will be putting up the flags on 09/10 at 7am.
Fundraising events were also discussed.
- Poker Night
- Still trying to find out rules for the event.
- PTK is considering the possibility of making the Poker Night a charity event.
- Maybe inviting politicians to play.
- Bake Sale
- The baked goods need to be made in PVCC’s kitchen.
- DeeJay and Vanessa will be working together for the bake sales.
- PTK is thinking about selling cookies and brownies at a car wash.
- Still deciding when PTK is going to start up the Bake Sales.
- Car Wash for PTK
- The date is still unsure, but we are considering early October.
- PTK is thinking about doing pre-sale tickets for the Car Wash.
- Possibly sell baked goods and water bottles at the Car Wash.
- PTK still needs to do more planning for the Car Wash.
- MoJo Yogurt
