In a continuing effort to work together as a learning centered college, PVCC held its fifth annual President's Advance on Feb. 22.
Faculty, staff and students gathered at the North Phoenix Elks Lodge and listened as PVCC President Dr. Gina Kranitz discussed the college's focus for the future.
"We have creative, energetic people to guide and inspire us, and make us successful," said Kranitz. "But we have limited funding, so we must use these resources to do more with less."
Kranitz pointed to an increase in underprepared students, continued enrollment growth and developing a quality service culture as major areas of focus for PVCC over the next few years.

Taking a look at any one of the community colleges in the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD),
a person will more than likely be able to observe many types of students interacting with one another.
These students may be young or mature, re-entry students. Chances are they come from many different
backgrounds culturally and racially.
Regardless of where students come from or how they were raised, they are working together at the community college to achieve their common goal of receiving an education. While this has been true throughout the history of community colleges, the diversity within their student bodies has never been greater, and it continues to become more so.

Nestled in the heart of Tucson"s downtown, home to a smorgasbord of college coeds and local eccentrics, sits an excursion that can take you away from the heatÖ and the 21st century. Established in 1919, The Hotel Congress at 311 E. Congress St. remains relatively unchanged since its hey day. With a modest 39 guest rooms in its inventory, all on the second floor, the Congress feels like stepping into a time warp, an escape from the daily grind.

Many students entering colleges across the country are not ready for the task at hand. At PVCC, many students" entrance scores fall under 100-level class competencies, according to a study prepared by Dr. Sally Rings, PVCC reading and English faculty. In fact, 44 percent test into early writing classes, 68 percent into early math and 39 percent into basic reading classes. These percentages are increasing.
