Search for new Dean enters screening phase
By Aaron Strassberg Paradise Valley Community College's national search for a new dean of administration began processing 68 applications in January. The applications will be screened to determine the applicants that are the most qualified for the position. Larry Fields, PVCC Business Manager, is overseeing the national search. "Our strongest focus is to look at everyone on a fair and equal basis," says Fields. "PVCC is looking for somebody with a broad experience background." The candidate PVCC hires must have five to seven years of experience in a leadership position in administration and at least a master’s degree. Fields says that applicants who meet these minimum qualifications would be considered for interviews. While the search for a new dean continues, Dean of Instruction Bob Bendotti is serving as acting dean of administration with Larry Fields assisting him. The search process began in November 2001with national advertisements placed in the “Chronicle of Higher Education,” “Black Issues,” “Hispanic Outlook” and “The Arizona Republic.” Fields also indicated that PVCC used an automated application process through the web site highered.jobs.com and distributed flyers to other colleges across the country. The Dean of Administrative Services Screening Committee planned to complete the initial screening before spring break and to schedule interviews for the end of March. Fields indicated that in the event PVCC does not find enough qualified applicants during this first search, the process would begin again. |
