PVCC athlete honored

Ms. Kassie Fronczyk

PVCC sophomore, Kassandra Fronczyk was honored Feb. 4 by the Phoenix Women's Sports Association as the 2004 Community College Athlete Scholar of the year.

Fronzyk with her current GPA of 3.93 is a member of PVCC's women's cross country and track teams. At the awards banquet held at the Hyatt Regency in Phoenix, Fronczyk received a trophy and was honored alongside the high school and university winners.

Athletically, Fronczyk has excelled in both cross country and track. Most recently, Fronczyk and the women's cross country team defended their national title at this years national meet to become the National Junior College Athletic Association national champions for the second year in a row.

In the 2003 track and field season, Fronczyk earned All-American honors in the 1000m and 1500m races at the Indoor National Championship meet as well. All of these accomplishments were attained while Fronczyk maintained an excellent academic record.

She believes that her academic and athletic success has a lot to do with her ability to manage her time effectively.

"It's finding time to do all of the things that you need to do," she says. Part of effective and responsible time management, she believes, also means sometimes not being able to do all of the things that she wants to do. In the end, however, the success makes the sacrifice worth it.

Fronczyk plans on transferring to a university in the Spring of 2004 and has already applied to several colleges, including Notre Dame. She hopes to pursue both her academic and athletic interests wherever she goes.
