More tennis players needed

More Students are needed for this year’s Paradise Valley Community College Men’s and Women’s tennis teams to secure roster depth for a more competitive team.

The tennis season begins in spring but the team is currently looking for students who have competitive experience and perform well academically.

According to Director of Athletics Greg Silcox, Scholarships are still available.
“Right now we have five men and six women,” Silcox says.” We would like to have between eight and 10 on both rosters.”

This year’s teams will be coached by the married duo of Jim and Barbara Paajenen, who are former coaches and teachers at North Canyon High School. Jim and Barbara were hired last spring for the recruitment of this year’s team.

“Last year’s teams struggled to achieve the academic performance expected of them,” says Silcox. "I am very impressed with Jim and Barbara as people. Their coaching experience speaks for itself. As former educators they have a respect for the educational aspects involved.”

Home matches are played at PVCC and transportation is provided to away games. The team competes with other community colleges in the state.

For more information about joining the team, contact Director of Athletics Greg Silcox at 602-787-6622 or Coach Jim Paajenen at 602-550-3733. You can also e-mail PVCCtennis@hotmail.com.
