Wanna push that button?
Here's what happens if you do...

Do you know what happens when you press the button on the emergency blue boxes that are scattered throughout campus?

A blue light will flash and a dispatcher will answer, ask your location and respond to your call, says a College Safety worker—but how do you know the system will work?

According to Paul Keller, a College Safety officer and former policeman with six years of experience at PVCC, the boxes are inspected weekly. Sometimes mechanical, electrical or phone line issues are found and repaired. The boxes have been in place since the campus opened over 20 years ago. Keller says they are very low maintenance, but if there were to be a common problem, it would be with the phone lines.

How do you know someone will answer?

There is always someone on the other end of the voice box line24/7, 365 days of the year, says Keller. That someone is at the Safety desk where live cameras installed about the campus offer additional public safety feedback.

“PVCC is a very, very safe campus,” says Keller.

Any pranks?

To date there have been no pranks since the boxes were installed says a worker who answers the emergency line.
