Writer and PVCC English faculty Pamela Osback recently won awards from the American Christian Fiction Writers and Virginia Romance Writers, along with a nomination from Romantic Times magazine for her 2008 book “Broken Lullaby.”

Her ACFW book of the year award came in the “short contemporary suspense” category—one of 14 categories with 225 total entries, according to Becky Yauger, ACFW VP.

The Virginia Romance Writer's gave Osback the Award of Merit, which is given to the four runners-up in each of 12 categories. Romantic Times Magazine nominated “Broken Lullaby” in the “Steeple Hill love inspired suspense” category (Steeple Hill is an imprint of Harlequin Enterprises publishing company).

Osback graduated from Texas Tech University with a BA in Journalism. She moved to Phoenix and began writing seriously after her mother's death in 1993, publishing her first book in 1999. She has since written or contributed to 16 books and is working on her next—a romantic suspense novel for Harlequin Enterprises publishing. Osback now teaches English composition at PVCC and is a member of the Under-prepared Student Initiative, a program designed to support student retention and success within the MCCCD, according to the USI's website.

Osback wants to write a New York Times Bestseller. Until then, writing is enjoyable, but not lucrative. She claims to have earned more per year as a waitress than an author.

“It's all about the relationship,” said Osback of romance writing.
