The Paradise Valley Community College women’s soccer team, now ranked No. 15 nationally, defeated No. 9 Pima Community College Oct. 7, 1-0, improving their record to 11-3.

After losing their first match at Pima, they evened the season series at home, handing PCC its first loss of the season. The only goal was scored by sophomore captain, Nicole Acosta. It came off of an assist by Alyssa Flores during the 35th minute.

“We knew this was going to be a tough game, and the girls came out hard in the first half,” said Coach Kacey Bingham. “We created most of our dangerous scoring opportunities in the first half with 13 shots on goal but were only able to put one away. The game was won with great defending by all 11 players on the field.”

The following Saturday the Pumas got redemption against Mesa Community College, who handed Coach Bingham the first losing streak of her career at PVCC, with a 1-0 victory by PVCC. When the Thunderbirds came to Shoenhair Field, the Pumas routed MCC 5-1.

PVCC’s remaining schedule works in their favor with Phoenix and Scottsdale, who they combined to outscore 7-1. The following week, the Pumas travel to South Mountain, which is last in the conference standings. To end their season, PVCC will host Glendale, who is second to last in the Arizona Community College Athletics Conference.

The Pumas are currently second in the ACCAC standings behind only Pima Community College, whose only loss was to the Pumas. PVCC will most likely be the second seed in the conference tournament. PVCC and Pima both remain well ahead in the ACCAC standings.
