The PVCC journalism certificate offers students the opportunity to acquire a journalism credential while earning a college degree.  Designed by the MCCCD Telecommunications and Journalism Instructional Council with the input of area publishers, the certificate prepares students to begin working at entry-level journalism jobs and to build their resumés while still in college. The certificate program can be completed in 24 credit hours.

• JRN 201 News Writing— Tues./Thurs.,  9:30 - 11:35 a.m., 3 credits; Fulfills Literacy requirement and transfers to state universities to fill requirement.

• ENG 235 Magazine Article Writing or JRN 234 Feature Writing— Thurs. evening hybrid course,  6:30 - 7:45 p.m., 3 credits; Transfers to state universities as elective: JRN234 fulfills Literacy requirement.

• JRN 290 Publications Portfolio—Build portfolio, 1 credit, to be taken in correspondence with the internship at the end of a student’s coursework on the journalism certificate, Time TBA

Journalism Certificate candidates will receive their certificates after successfully completing the course work, which includes submitting an e-Portfolio of four published articles to a jury of the advisory council of the Occupational Journalism Program.
