Paradise Valley Community College men’s cross country team won the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I championship in Hobbs, New Mexico on Saturday. Nov. 12.
Four PVCC athletes finished in the top 12 positions for the event, bringing home the title and four All-American performances. Sophomore, Jacob Naylor placed 4th over-all for the competition finishing the 5.1-mile race with an outstanding time of just over 26 minutes.
The Paradise Valley Community College Veterans Association enjoyed a busy month of November as it brought the military to campus during its Veterans Day weeklong celebration.
Club members went all out to bring in military recruiters and personnel from the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force, representatives from Disabled American Veterans and the Patriot Guard Riders, information from USAA and games, prizes and events to make it a fun celebration for everyone.
Following the models set by more than 400 universities around the country, as well as Wal-Mart, the Maricopa County Community College District Governing Board voted on August 23, 2011 to readjust the colleges’ nondiscrimination policy to prevent inequity to students and faculty who identify themselves as being a gender different than their biological sex.
When the Aspen Institute gifts $1 million to a community college in December, Paradise Valley Community College and other Maricopa County community colleges won’t be there to receive it and retention may have played a factor.
The first annual Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence may be shared by up to three runners-up in what began from a selection 1,200 community colleges. The Aspen Institute named their top 120 eligible community colleges for the prize in April. Estrella Mountain Community College in Avondale, and Cochise College in Douglas, were recognized from Arizona.
