SWU 102 Introduction to Social Work *Flex Course
An introduction to the fields within the area of social work through a study of the disciplines of social case work, social group work, and community organization.
Prerequisites: Eligibility for ENG101 and CRE101.
SWU 291 Social Services Delivery Systems (Offered Spring Semester only) *Flex Course
Purposes, structures and delivery systems of human service agencies. Includes 40 hours of volunteer experience in local human service agencies.
Prerequisites or corequisites: SWU102 or SWU271 or permission of department.
SWU 292 Effective Helping in a Diverse World *Flex Course
Introduction to professional helper communication skills with respect to cross-cultural practice and diversity issues in a social work setting.
Prerequisites: None. (SOC 101 and SWU 102) or SWU 171 suggested but not required.
SWU 258 Victimology and Crisis Management (Offered in both traditional and flex formats)
Focuses on victimology and techniques of crisis intervention; and the importance of multicultural perspective. Includes coverage of sexual assault, family violence, child abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance abuse, coping skills, stress managment, and community resources.
Prerequisites: None.
SWU 282 AA, AB, & AC Volunteerism for Social Work: A Service Learning Experience *GIL Course
Service-learning field experience within private/public agencies, and citizen volunteer groups. May be repeated for a total of six (6) SWU282 credit hours; may not repeat specific assignment for more than three (3) credit hours. Standard grading available according to procedures outlined in catalog.
