Sociology Courses
The PVC Sociology Department offers courses that:
- Help students meet their General Education Degree requirements.
- Give Sociology Majors the opportunity to fulfill some of their B.S. degree requirements at a community college.

- Introduction to Sociology [SOC101] Fundamental concepts of social organization, culture, socialization, social institutions, and social change.
- Human Sexuality [SOC130] Examination of the physical, social, cultural, and institutional contributions to human sexuality.
- Racial & Ethnic Minorities [SOC140] Contemporary and historical racial and ethnic intergroup relations emphasizing cultural origins, developments, and problems of minority groups in the United States.
- Gender and Society [SOC212] A study of the way culture shapes and defines the positions and roles of both men and women in society.
- Sociology of Health & Illness [SOC270] Roles of health care providers and patients, various modalities of treatment and prevention, and the history, current status, and future trends in medicine and medical technology, from a cultural sociological perspective.
