Honors
student Vaughn Walker is a member of the SLC
Student Leadership Council, and is on Student Honors Advisory
Board. But he has yet to declare his major, probably because
he’s interested in so many things. Rock climbing, hiking,
the boomerang, football, business, philosophy, and scrapbooking.
Music looms large in his life, too. “I was in my high school
jazz band, where I played the guitar, the piano, and the trombone – which
is also my mother’s instrument,” Vaughn says. The
unlikely pairing of football and the trombone played an important
part in his life. Born with upper respiratory asthma, and the
veteran of many trips to the ER, at age 8 his breathing range
capacity tested at the capacity of a 70-year-old. “But
playing the trombone help me gain lung capacity, so I joined
the football team, and eventually made varsity,” he says. “Now
I breathe in the normal range!” |
