Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is ACE/SUCCEED?
The ACE/SUCCEED (Achieving a College Education/ Students Using Community College to Expand Educational Dreams) Program allows high school students to attend Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) and high school classes at the same time.

  2. Who can participate?
Sophomore students from Paradise Valley Unified School District high schools with good grades, positive attitudes, and who want to go to college may take part in ACE/SUCCEED. Students apply during their sophomore year and enroll at PVCC the first semester of their junior year and continue in the program for two years.

  3. What classes will I take?
You will take computer, study skills, and career/personal development classes in the first year. The second year you will have another college skills course and one course of your choice each semester.

  4. Will I get college credit?
Yes! First year students earn twelve college credits per year, while second year students earn nine. Students can also take a three-credit course the summer between junior and senior years. And you earn high school credits at the same time.

  5. How will I get to my classes?
Your high school will provide transportation to and from PVCC.

  6. How much will it cost me?
Although college costs are much higher, ACE/SUCCEED students pay only $25 per semester. The remaining costs of tuition are paid through a scholarship. In the first year, the scholarship covers the cost of text books. In the second year, students must pay for their own books.

  7. When will I have classes at PVCC?
ACE/SUCCEED classes are held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 12:30 PM to about 4:30 PM.

  8. Will there be homework and tests?
Is the sky blue? These are real college courses and that means a college work load. However, it is not more than a good student can accomplish with a reasonable effort.

  9. Will the classes be fun?
As with anything else, you will have fun in proportion to the enthusiasm you put into it. The program's name "ACE/SUCCEED" says it all. Success is fun for everyone!
