Visiting Artist & Scholar Reading and Lecture Series

PVCC's Fine and Performing Arts Committee has started a signature Visiting Artist and Scholar literary reading and lecture series. In addition to giving presentations, Visting Artists and Scholars have conducted "Master Classes" for students, faculty, staff and community members. Outstanding writers read selections from their work, conduct creative writing exercises/workshops, donate signed manuscripts to the PVCC Special Archival Collections and participate in question and answer sessions as well as book signings.

To date, Visiting Artists and Scholars have included the following: Distinguished Poet and Scholar Lewis Turco, author of sixteen volumes and chapbooks of poetry and six non-fiction books, including a critical study of American poetry; Ron Carlson, author of five books of fiction, co-host of the television show *Books & Co.*, former director of Arizona State University's Creative Writing Program; and Beckian Fritz Goldberg, author of three volumes of poetry, winner of the University of Akron Press Poetry Prize.

The Fall of 2000 Visiting Artist and Scholar will be Allen Woodman, author of six books, including The Cows Are Going to Paris*, a children's picture, selected as Doubleday and Guild book club selections, co-written by award-winning poet David Kirby. Dr. Woodman is Professor of English and Creative Writing at Northern Arizona University.
