Paradise Valley Community College Profile

PVCC's fall 2000 credit enrollment was 7,000, with over 4,000 additional students enrolled in non-credit Continuing Education and Workforce Development courses and programs. The college's curriculum centers around university transfer, pre-education, pre-engineering, pre-pharmacy, pre-nursing, hazardous materials technology and international business. PVCC has a growing athletic program, which has already developed national championship teams in women's cross country and men's and women's pole vault. Moreover, the fine arts and theatre programs are flourishing. The college's international education reputation is expanding through the college's designation as a Regional Center for Asian Studies by the East-West Center of Hawaii.

Through numerous conversations, the college community has determined that Learning is the core value. "It is what we strive to achieve; it is what we care about deeply. It is our mission, our common purpose." The college community is striving to become a more learning-centered college. That means "increasing the capacity of our students, our employees and our organization to achieve the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that will enable success." From their conversations members of the college community have developed "Twelve Indicators that PVCC is Becoming a More Learning-Centered College" and are working on elements from which to measure them. The college community has also identified six strategic issues upon which to focus its planning, budgeting and institutional effectiveness processes.

Having received a 10-year re-accreditation from the North Central Association, which called PVCC a "premier" institution, the college is striving to enhance its reputation in becoming an even more learning-centered college for the community it serves.
