Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 12:45P-1:45P

Members Present:

Issues/items discussed:

1) TCT Budget - Submitted:
On February 15, the TCT budget was submitted to Larry Fields. A presentation will be made to the PBRC. Time yet to be determined by Larry.

2) SPT & PBRC Reports:
No reports due to HLC visitation.

3) Ocotillo - Report/Status:
Once again, please continue to check out the Ocotillo web page to keep updated as to what is occurring. It's located at http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ocotillo/.

A reminder that RLO100- Introduction to Reusable Learning Objects - is occurring from March 1 - April 29. Check out http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ocotillo/rsvp/index.php?id=110 for more information.

Mary Lou updated us on the time schedule for Learning Objects Dialogue Day to take place at Glendale CC on April 1st. Time is from 8:30A-3:30P. Check out http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/dd/objects05/ for more information.

The Ocotillo Retreat - Lost in Technology? Charting Your Way - (http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ocotillo/retreat05/) is scheduled for Tuesday, May 17, 2005, from 8:30A-3:30P at South Mountain CC. Presenters are needed. To submit a proposal online, go to http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ocotillo/retreat05/presenter.php. The deadline to submit proposals is March 31st. Online registration for the retreat begins on March 28.

4) EDUCAUSE:
The Educause/Internet2 Security 2005 Conference is scheduled to take place April 3-5, 2005. More information can be found at http://www.educause.edu/SEC05. Jim Patterson will be attending.

5) Summer Technology Fun Week:
Chrystle and Rick presented us with some information related to the upcoming Summer Technology Fun Week. They polled us about the dates in which to run the event, and it was agreed that it would occur from July 6th through July 12th. This time slot was chosen over an end of May one since it gives presenters more time to prepare.

A task force will be set up to determine what will be presented. Ideas presented were: E-Portfolios, RLOs, Sony Digital Days, StudyMate/SoftChalk, Cantasia, Impatica, Midas, DreamWeaver, Home Office Setup/Wireless Networking (Loretta and Linda Lawson - potential presenters?)

To learn more about Summer Technology Fun Week, check out http://www.pvc.maricopa.edu/~training/sti/index.html.

6) Wireless - Schedule/Cost for Implementation at PVCC:
Carol updated us on the wireless schedule (read her draft "PVCC Wireless Internet Access Proposal" that was provided at the meeting).

There will be two types of CISCO WAP (range of 300 feet). Wireless will be available inside the library, in the E-building hallway, and in the student union. Data will be gathered over the summer regarding logistics, usage, bandwidth, etc. Networks will be mapped.

Beta deployment of the wireless network will be provided to the students, and they will be given a temporary ticket. The proposed deployment date is May 15th.

A proposal for funding for a server will be forthcoming. Carol will update us at our next meeting.

7) StudyMate/SoftChalk - Demo/Comparisons:
On February 28, Roger Yohe sent out an e-mail soliciting input from all the colleges re: LessonBuilder from SoftChalk. He said that the Ocotillo leaders are willing to broker a district deal for this program similar to what is being done for Respondus and StudyMate. LessonBuilder does not have an annual license, but there is an annual support fee. A LessonBuilder site license will cost about $5,000 for each college.

Chrystle and Jennifer spent the last 30 minutes of the meeting demonstrating and comparing StudyMate (demonstrated by Chrystle) and SoftChale (demonstrated by Jennifer). They also provided us with a handout listing the comparisons between StudyMate and SoftChalk.

For more information about StudyMate and SoftChalk, check out http://www.respondus.com/ and http://www.softchalk.com/. Also, located on district's page, http://www.mcli.dist.maricopa.edu/ocotillo/courseware/respondus.html.

The general consensus reached during the meeting was that we would not go with SoftChalk.

Chrystle and Jennifer will probably demo StudyMate/SoftChalk at the Ocotillo Retreat(?), during the Fall 2005 Learning week, and during the Summer Technology Fun Week(?).

NB: After the meeting, Chrystle sent out an e-mail stating that StudyMate does not work on Mac. SoftChalk does work on both Mac and PC. The Learning Activities created with SoftChalk and StudyMate can be viewed/accessed by students on both Mac and PC. But, StudyMate cannot be used by an instructor on a Mac to create the activities. The same is true for Respondus.

We will revisit this issue at our next meeting to decide the Mac issue and which of StudyMate or SoftChalk to go with. Once decided, Cathy will let Roger Yohe know the college's decision.

8) Other Items:

a) Jon informed us that he is now on the district's Technology Leadership Council (FEC rep).

b) Rick informed us that the Computer Commons Open Lab fee will be $15.00 per semester, effective Fall 2005. The increased fee will allow the CC to continue to provide students with access to 100+ computers in the OPen Lab, use a variety of software and/or course related data files, laser printing of PVCC course related documents, help available from lab staff members to answer short basic questions, access to the internet for course related needs, and use of a scanner.

The next TCT meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, 2005, 12:45P-1:45P in the G-conference room (G126).

This "Meeting Report" is my interpretation of what occurred during this meeting. If you would like to correct an error(s), make an addition(s), or have any questions, please call me @ 7-6651 or e-mail me.
