Coordinating Team - TCT Minutes from TCT Meeting:
Wednesday, September 21, 2005, 12:45P-1:45P Members Present: Guests: Issues/Items Discussed:
Mary Lou Goff presented an outline for the TCT and Lab Planning Management Ocotillo Discussion. Quoting the 13 points she touched on are (see Mary Lou's hand-out provided at the meeting): "TCT/LPM Ocotillo Discussion: Jim Patterson volunteered to coordinate for PVCC. He will contact John Arle and Alan Levine @ MCLI re: the 13 points brought up by Mary Lou. Linda Lawson will work with JIm as well. We will check with Michaelle Shadburne re: food, etc. We will also check into whether we can use the PAC for the speaker. Jim said that Ocotillo will probably be on Wednesday, May 17, 2006. He will let us know the final date. Jim said that the recommendation is to use the same format as for the May 2005 Ocotillo retreat. There will be demo stations; there will be several concurrent self-running demos. Presenters will bring in their own laptops. Rooms that will be used for the Ocotillo retreat will be in the CC, LSC, and M-Building. Jim, Linda, and Casey will meet with Mary Lou Goff and Patti Marsh before the next TCT meeting. Anyone else? Jim will let us know when to meet after he's found out some preliminary information.
See the handout for Ocotillo events. Jim informed us of the Learning Spaces event at MCC. Jim's "single-focus mission" is on ICampus, a concept from MIT => Course paks for different disciplines. "The MIT Outreach Initiative seeks to disseminate innovative educational technology tools that can make a significant, sustainable difference in how well and quickly students learn, how much they remember, and how fast they can shift from absorbing facts and concepts to creating new ideas and solutions themselves. With generous support from Microsoft Research, MIT iCampus Outreach seeks faculty and institutions looking to adopt new educational tools. The Outreach project will provide the software tools, supporting documentation, and guidance to assist higher education institutions to successfully implement these tools." To learn more about ICampus, check out the following link: Jim would like to recruit one member from each college to incorporate ICampus in their discipline with a follow-up report and a presentation at Ocotillo. You can also find this on Jim's Ocotillo link at:
Carol Myers and Kurt Hill attended the demo. Both came back with a positive feeling about the demo. Carol said there are many features with VoIP: 911 safety demo; bulletin board functionality; ability to track and monitor network usage (traffic, block size, where from, etc.); able to track "abandoned calls" from students who waited too long for help; time to wait; "Big Brother" is watching - i.e., can record phone calls, can set a programmable trigger if someone calls a 1-900 #; "NetFlow" can "capture every single activity down to the click." Carol said that there will be a monthly fee to QWest for routing. She will continue to work on this, timeline implementation, and will keep us updated.
Chrystle informed us that the third annual Summer Technology Fun Week, held July 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, was a huge success. She is planning on repeating this event next summer and will start planning for the event earlier than the last time around since a lot of preparation time is needed. Chrystle said the overall perception of attendees was very positive. (See the handout provided to us at yesterday's meeting for more information regarding the "Demographics for 2005 compared to 2004 and 2003.")
View link at: Everyone agreed that a demo would be beneficial. Jennifer will coordinate to have a demo set up for our October 19, 2005 TCT meeting.
Please review this sheet provided to us by Cathy. Send her your comments/suggestions/questions.
Our Wednesday, October 5, 2005 meeting will focus on a presentation by Chrystle on the new SIS faculty and student portals. Our Wednesday, October 19, 2005 meeting will focus on a demo by Jennifer on Macromedia Breeze. Both meetings will be "somewhere" in the CC. More information to come.
