Courses in life drawing investigate traditional and contemporary approaches to drawing the human figure. Diverse materials and methods are explored in exercises with the nude figure and portraits. Emphasis is placed on developing perceptual acumen, technical skill, and critical thinking. Topics of focus include: linear techniques of gesture and contour; volume or modeled studies; anatomy; and achieving proportion.

Courses in ceramics provide students with an opportunity to investigate the tactile processes of working with clay. Diverse methods of object building are explored including: coil, slab, and pinch construction and throwing on the potter's wheel. Students acquire glazing techniques and learn about various firing processes.

The Fine and Performing Arts division supports the notion of synergy within the arts and is working to develop learning opportunities for students to engage with multiple artforms (music, dance, creative writing, theater, and visual arts). Topics of focus include: understanding the mechanical features of the digital camera and lenses; work with hand-held camera techniques; lighting effects; regulating exposure; use of white balance and color; techniques of the digital darkroom including work with photo-imaging software; and high-resolution printing.
