Web
Page Guidelines
Purpose
The Web Development
Committee has developed the following guidelines for the creation of
web pages. The purpose of these guidelines is to provide a consistent
look and feel for visitors to PVCC's web pages and to help people create
pages that are easy to use. PVCC has identified the following categories
of web pages: PVCC Pages and Personal Pages.
Guidelines
for ALL Web Pages
Required
- The person responsible
for the page content will be named on the page along with e-mail link.
- Disclaimer link
or notice should appear on the page prior to content.
- Commercial
activity or promotion of non-campus groups or activities is
not allowed on any pages.
- The use of the
Paradise Valley Community College logo is limited to PVCC Pages only.
- Content must
comply with all laws and PVCC Student Code.
- All
material used on a PVCC website must follow proper
Copyright
Guidlines posted from district office.
Guidelines
for PVCC Pages
PVCC Pages contain
college information such as class schedules, course syllabi, departmental
information, student clubs, and instructional courses.
Required
- Use standardized
header that includes logo, college name and address, and page title.
- Page footer should
include full name of unit, the page URL, the last date of revision,
and the name and e-mail link of the person with content responsibility.
- The <TITLE>
tag should begin with "PVCC - " to identify PVCC pages in Go or History
lists.
- Any graphic image
links need to also have text links.
- All <IMG>
tags should also include the ALT= attribute for non-graphical browsers.
- All unit main
pages should have a link to PVCC's main page
- Unit pages should
have a link to the unit's main page.
- The copyright
symbol © and date must be placed on all unit main pages and should
be placed on pages with original and substantive content.
Recommended
- Use a similar
style for continuity across related pages.
- Try to use a
general style guideline.
- Check links often.
- Spell check pages.
- Avoid blinking
text.
- Make sure text
is readable on background.
- Avoid large graphics
and also avoid lots of little graphics.
- Make sure navigational
aids are helpful for users.
- View pages on
different browsers.
- Test, test, test!
Guidelines
for Personal Pages
Personal pages provide
a web presence for PVCC faculty and staff that can provide added benefit
for students but are not intended for college information. A maximum of
10MB of disk space will be allocated for this purpose.
Required
- Page must have
a disclaimer that the page content is solely the responsibility of
the personal page creator.
- The personal
page creator must be named along with e-mail link.
- The use of the
PVCC logo is not allowed on personal pages.
- Stand-alone links
to PVCC main page are not allowed, i.e., "Click here to go to PVCC
Main Page" is not allowed but "I work at PVCC." is allowed.
- Personal pages
cannot contain solicitation.
Recommended
- Use personal
pages for self-publication.
- Experiment with
different styles and ideas.
