Concept
|
Do
you think of yourself as a leader? Most everyone is called to lead
at some point in their lives and as a Citizen Scholar, you've taken
on an important role in your community and campus. One key to successful
leadership is knowing yourself well -- your strengths, your limitations,
the things that push your buttons. At some point you may wish to
pursue leadership studies, a growing academic subject area. But
for now, it's important that you have knowledge of your own leadership
tendencies, identify the areas you'd like to build upon and strengthen,
and think about what it means to be a leader in the civic sphere,
as opposed to an educational, business, faith-based community or
family realm.

List five characteristics of leadership most often associated
with the business or corporate world and apply them to the
larger civic arena. What is required of a leader in community
that may not be necessary in business? Are there kinds of
activities and traits that would serve one well in the corporate
world but not in civic engagement?
2.
Identify three of your qualities that make you a good leader.
Now name one or two areas you'd like to strengthen or improve
in order to lead more effectively.
