The North Valley Battle of the Bands encourages aspiring high school
and college aged musicians to work on their craft and to continue to
make original music. As sponsor of the event, the Commercial
Music Program at Paradise Valley Community College supports these goals
by providing an opportunity to the participating bands to perform live
in a number of venues, to be critiqued by professional musicians, and
for select groups to receive free recording time in the school's
recording facilities. The project culminates in the
production of a full-length CD.
In turn, the project provides a unique opportunity for the students
taking courses in the Commercial Music Program by allowing them to
participate at all levels in the development and production of the live
concerts and CD. Students taking live sound classes work on
the sound reinforcement needs for shows in two venues.
Students taking studio recording classes engineer, edit, and assist in
the mixing of the recording sessions. Lastly, students in the
music business program work on elements of promotion, copyright, and
concert production.
Now in its eighth year, the project is an important tool used to
support the creation of original music and to train the next generation
of music business professionals.
