Title: Director
Learning Center
Job Summary: Plans, administers, and
provides instructional support services in the Learning
Center for the colleges.
Scope: This position works in the area
of the Learning Center. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, and students. Equipment used includes standard
office equipment, VCR, video camera, sound on slide and
language master.
Supervision Received : This position
reports to the appropriate Dean; receives general direction
regarding routine and standard matters; specific instructions
regarding non-routine and highly sensitive matters.
Supervision Exercised: May direct work
of Coordinator Learning Center, Learning Center Technician,
Clerk Typist, Testing Clerk, students and temporaries.
Representative Duties: Plans and evaluates
individual learning programs for students with special needs;
directs center planning, development, and implementation
of programs; coordinates basic skill and credit courses
with faculty; oversees Development Education credit and
support services; monitors, evaluates, designs procedures
for gathering data; researches funding sources; prepares
proposals and reports; performs academic advisement for
basic skills; recruits and schedules tutors; supervises,
trains, and evaluates assigned staff; assists in facilities
planning; updates computer lab and resources; maintains
liaison with various departments regarding program; maintains
a variety of records, reports, and data; performs related
duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of:
learning assistance operations and techniques; data analysis;
grant/proposal writing. Ability to: develop specialized
learning assistance programs; make small or large group
presentations and conduct individualized instruction; supervise
assigned staff; prepare and monitor budget; communicate
effectively orally and in writing; and establish cooperative
working relationships with persons contacted in the course
of performing assigned duties.
Training and Experience : Any combination
of education, training, and experience that provides the
required knowledge and abilities. An example of this would
be a college degree and/or experience in college-level learning
assistance programs.

Title: Coordinator
Learning Center
Job Summary: Coordinates operations
and provides tutoring services for students in the Learning
Center.
Scope: This position works in the area
of the Learning Center. Work contacts include administrators,
faculty, staff, and students. Equipment used includes standard
office equipment, and various instructional support media
equipment.
Supervision Received: This position
reports to the Director Learning Center; receives general
direction regarding routine and standard matters; specific
instructions regarding non-routine matters.
Supervision Exercised: May direct the
work of staff, students, and temporaries.
Representative Duties: Manages, supervises
and coordinates the activities of staff; establishes work
priorities and work schedules; develops operational rules
and procedures for the Learning Assistance Center; collaborates
with faculty to identify students who need standard and
specialized tutoring; recruits and trains tutors; evaluates
tutors in techniques and methods and monitors their effectiveness;
oversees make-up testing and monitors alternative testing;
oversees maintenance of student records and test materials;
assists the Director in the design and implementation of
facilities plans; assists the Director in budget preparation
and monitors requisitions; may assist the Director in center
fiscal planning and in writing grants and proposals; gathers
a variety of statistical data; prepares reports and publicity
materials; designs and updates record keeping and tracking
systems; evaluates and selects materials for purchase; manages
equipment status and repair; monitors preparation of biweekly
payroll; makes presentations on a variety of learning assistance
topics; conducts LAC tours; acts as liaison to faculty and
other college departments; performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of:
tutoring techniques; learning assistance programs; a variety
of learning styles; administrative and instructional support
learning assistance technologies; teaching, learning, and
collaboration techniques. Ability to: coordinate a multi-purpose,
multi-discipline, comprehensive Learning Center; administer
budget; interpret statistical data; develop educational
plans; maintain student records; recruit, evaluate and train
staff and tutors; communicate effectively orally and in
writing; establish cooperative working relationships with
persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties.

Title:
Director of Tutorials
The Learning Support Center is a student
academic service in the Division of Academic Affairs and
serves as a focal point for the University's centralized
learning assistance and learning enrichment services. These
services are integral to the University's overall retention
efforts.
Reporting to and under the general supervision
of the director of the Learning Support Center (LSC), is
the coordinator of the tutorial services component of the
Center. The coordinator's duties and responsibilities include,
but are not limited to, the following:
1. Develop and implement a range of
tutorial services which serve the needs of the student population.
Particular emphasis will be placed on the provision of tutorial
services for high-risk or target minority students. Prepare
reports semesterly.
2. Work closely with other retention-related
student services, particularly the Academic Advising Center,
the Office of Student Development Services (Equal Opportunity
Program, Student Affirmative Action, Student Special Services
Program), and the Counseling Center, on the development
of tutorial services for students identified as being in
need. Develop the means by which students will be counseled
and advised into tutorial services. Prepare reports as necessary
for external funding agencies.
3. Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate
tutors. Careful consultation with academic departments will
be necessary to assure the integrity of tutorial services
provided in course and subject areas. develop appropriate
record keeping and evaluation systems for use with student
tutors.
4. Work with LSC staff in intake diagnosis,
and evaluation to assure that students are properly oriented
to tutorial services, and are properly diagnosed for the
provision of services, and are eligible, if appropriate,
for categorical-funded tutorial services. Develop appropriate
evaluation mechanisms to assess the benefits of tutorial
services.
5. Prepare budgets and monitor expenditures
related to tutorial services. Consider alternative means
of funding tutorial services.
6. Working with the director and other
campus officials, develop appropriate working relationships
with non-LSC tutorial services. Work to incorporate such
tutorial services within the LSC.
7. Serve on committees as deemed appropriate
or essential to conduct the work of the tutorial services
component.

The Learning Support Center is a student
academic service in the Division of Academic Affairs and

programs and services will be offered as part of the LSC
and/or in conjunction with academic programs and departments.
Supplemental instructional programs

of high-risk or target minority students enrolled in "core"
courses. Supplemental instructional services may also be
developed in conjunction with other University activities
such as the Writing Proficiency Examination. Prepare reports
semesterly.
2. Working with the director and other
campus officials, develop appropriate working relationships
with non-LSC supplemental instruction programs. Work to
incorporate those programs into LSC operations.
3. Work closely with other retention-related
student services, particularly the Academic Advising Center,
the Office of Student Development Services ( Equal Opportunity
