This is the second of 9 weekly e-mails designed to share interesting and important ideas from the 2005 PVCC Self-Study Report. Each week will feature a different employee perspective and original art from our own David Bradley.

Today’s Topic: Criterion One:  Mission and Integrity

Background

Mission sets the foundation for all current and future college functions.  Ultimately, accreditation and integrity are about establishing accountability that we are structured properly and are successfully living our mission.

Reflections by: Esther Schon

What three things did Esther learn or find interesting?

1.  I have never seen the PVCC organizational chart before and I learned a bit more about the administrative structure of the college.

2. I found the history of the administrative changes interesting.

3. Each year, an advertising theme is established.  For 2004-2005, the theme is "Learning/for life. for work. for you."

What are three important Ideas for a first-time visitor to PVCC?

1. Learning is the core value of the college and serves as the foundation for all other mission defining documents.

2. The  "Planning Matrix" aligns PVCC Strategic Issues with MCCCD Goals and Strategic Directions.

3. Planning and budgeting processes involve the entire campus and are specifically designed to reinforce the mission.

Summary

The College, in Criterion One, clarifies its commitment to its constituents through its mission, demonstrates understanding of the mission, details programs, policies, and structures set up to support the mission, and verifies that its policies, procedures and structures are aligned and support the mission.
