This is the third of 9 weekly e-mails designed to share interesting and important ideas from the 2005 PVCC Self-Study Report. Each week will feature a different employee perspective and original art from our own David Bradley.

Today's Topic: Criterion Two:  Preparing  For The Future, Part I

Background

Preparing for the  Future is one of the most critical items for accreditation.  Is the college well poised for a healthy and productive future?  Because this section is so large, we have divided it into two pieces.  This installment looks at the structure and effectiveness of planning, assessment, and institutional feedback processes.

Reflections by: Kent Shadburne

What three things did
Kent learn or find interesting?

1.  The strategic and operational planning flow chart is a very informative tool that clearly illustrates PVCC's plans and processes to guide us into the future.

2. I have a greater understanding of PVCC's processes, systems, and committees that allow us to not only grow, but also be responsive to our students and the community's ever changing needs.

3. Our plans, processes, and procedures are comprehensive and align with our goals, vision, and mission statements to serve our students in a positive learning environment.

What are three important Ideas for a first-time visitor to PVCC?

1. Through effective planning, PVCC has a strong foundation to ensure the future of the institution, high quality learning experiences, and continued service to students and the community.

2. The  "Legacy" of PVCC is now!  A comprehensive set of checks and balances and procedures are able to   adapt in response to future needs of students and the community.

3. Through flexible processes, procedures, systems and planning, PVCC is able to anticipate the growing community needs and how best to address those needs.
