This is the fourth of 9 weekly e-mails designed to share interesting and important ideas from the 2005 PVCC Self-Study Report. Each week will feature a different employee perspective and original art from our own David Bradley.

Today's Topic: Criterion Two:  Preparing  For The Future, Part II

Background

Today's  portion of Criterion Two:  Preparing for the  Future focuses on college resources and the alignment of our planning and budgeting processes with our mission.  College resources are discussed at length in three categories:  physical, human, and financial.

Reflections by: Carol Myers

What three things did Carol learn or find interesting?

1.  PVCC has done a phenomenal job of strategic planning and budgeting to maximize limited staff and space over the years given there was no upward base budget adjustment for an  initial campus enrollment 2 times the size of district office projections.

2.  Strategic planning is not a document to support a stated mission but a learning-centered thread woven throughout the college's day-to-day operations.

3. Noel Levitz data indicate that there is a high level of student  satisfaction with instruction and key student services.

What are three important Ideas for a first time visitor to PVCC?

1. PVCC is a Maricopa-wide example of appropriate and  intuitive planning to maximize use of resources to serve an ever growing student population.

2. It will be a greater challenge for PVCC to keep pace with the rapid population growth in its expanding service area.

3. PVCC leads Maricopa in making strategic planning and budgeting a part of daily operational activities.
