Self-Study Criterion Team Process Notes
Process Summary of Progress
Criterion Four Team

Sally Rings and David Gerkin were selected to co-chair the Criterion 4 Self-Study sub-committee. Both co-chairs participated in round-table discussions regarding the requirements and timelines for the next two years of the study.

Members of the Criterion 4 Core Component team were selected as follows:

Shelle Witten
Michaelle Shadburne
Judy Galbraith
Lynn McClelland

and Cathy Hart was selected as the Administrative Liaison.

In April, using feedback from faculty, staff, and students from the President's Advance (focused on the HLC), the Criterion 4 team examined how the criterion statement and core components fit with the organizational units and program activities at PVCC. The feedback also helped identify resources, existing documentation, and strengths and weaknesses. The co-chairs created worksheets that outlined each core component with questions to be answered by the sub-committee members.

Fall 2003

Co-Chair Sally Rings took a medical leave, and Jane Marks served as co-chair in her absence. The co-chairs and sub-committee met on a regular basis throughout the fall semester to discuss the timelines, the core components, and assign data gathering assignments. Team members were asked to gather data in areas of expertise, e.g. Michaelle gathered E&OL data, Judy gathered Puma Press and Honors data, Shelle gathered research data, and Lynn gathered Service Learning data. When all questions in the core components were answered and documentation collected, the sub-committee turned in their completed worksheets.

On November 14, 2003, there was an open forum in which the college community was invited to get a report on the progress to date. The Criterion 4 team presented its findings - emphasizing strengths and weaknesses, challenges, trends, and opportunities.

At the Open Forum, questions based on Criterion 4 and its core components were provided to the participants to aid the team in determining if all "bases" were covered. The feedback from the participants was recorded and used for revision of the Criterion Four report.

Spring/Summer 2004

In the Spring 2004 Semester, Sally Rings rejoined the committee as a co-chair, and Jane Marks agreed to continue as a co-chair, so the sub-team began to operate with three co-chairs from that point forward. A formal draft of the report was submitted to Rick Vaughn during the spring semester. Included was an explanation of how the feedback from the open forum was incorporated into the self-study report.

Based on the information gathered by the sub-committee, and additional information gathered as the writing occurred, the three co-chairs spent the spring and summer months writing the report.

Fall 2004

The report was completed during the Fall 2004 semester.

Once completed, the report was made available to the entire sub-committee for their feedback regarding clarification, changes, updates, modifications, etc.
